Wireless?

Post by AltarBoy » Tue May 29, 2007 4:11 pm

I'm planning to sign up for wireless internet service. Anyone got wireless and is it a good way to go?

You should ask Moe (nicely) his works fine on HE etc. Mine was Cr@p so i guess it depends on your service, might even be better than your old connection.

I believe the technical term for wireless internet is 'crap' if you plan on using it for online gaming. It might have 'high speed' but excessively high lag. I almost got it last year to replace my dial-up ISP, it would have lagged worse than dial-up!

If you have no option other than wireless then it's great. If I had the option of my old wired connection I'd be straight back on it. I've been lucky that my connection and ping have been stable for HE. But Sneaky and Igor are right, in a lot of cases it can be useless for gaming.

Good luck with the move and your connection. Been there, done that, and have a t-shirt that says, "I was grounded for 11 months".

That's it, I don't have much of a choice. I'll take my chances with wireless. I had a ping problem with wired DSL connection on FI sessions. So I hope I won't have one with wireless. Well, last night in the house. In the morning the pc ships out so take care my fellow FI and hopefully I'll be back soon with a new rig and ready to fly again. :wink2:

Ping might be great if you factor out the three or so second delay..

However might be interesting to game with. You'd be three seconds behind yourself and only 1.5 seconds or so behind everyone else.

You could be dead for 1.5 seconds before you knew you'd been hit.
