FI Squadron paint scheme
Please forgive my presumptuousness, but I'm just gonna plow ahead with this and see what pops up.
Assuming that we go ahead with a squadron paint scheme, we'll need as many ideas as possible to come up with a real winner. All your input is very important. Please feel free to post your:
- designs
- ideas
- examples
- logos, rounds, number/lettering styles, add-ons, etc.
Getting this whole thing started will be tough. Keep in mind that your stuff should not be too complicated and easy to incorporate in to many different aircraft. If you're not a skinner, don't worry. Draw something up on WinPaint or whatever just to convey your ideas or post pictures of examples you find on the 'net.
We will probably start with one un-numbered skin per aircraft model for those co-ops that are ongoing or soon to be implemented. If you are a mission designer, let us know what those ac are/will be.
Thanks for your time and input,
Falcon

As an example:
A Fw190A in RAF gray green (IreGreen)
(EDIT) It may be helpfull for any submittions to have the name of the ac, model and artist on it somewhere so we can refer to the proper item and source.
Ex:
AC model_style/example or idea_contributor's name
Fw190A_IreGreen_Falcon

Stu, the aircraft in the Pacific are the at the moment F4F-4s and SBD-3s, though that part will finish soon. Then we have Corsair MK1 and P47-D22s( both aircraft are stand ins for others). then F4U-1A, SBD-5s, F4U-1Ds and F4U-1Cs, F6F-3s and -5s.

Like this?
Just a quick one using Jester's template (and weathering/chips/etc) for the Tempest
I haven't quite gotten down the cool even tri-colored bands underneath like Falcon, but I should get it a bit more "thirded" soon...
Any glaring mistakes on my part? Should the wing roundels be bigger? Have the white box underneath? Additions?
Sna"just wingin' it"phoo

Snacon,
Great work! Assuming we go with an IreGreen scheme, that's a great design.
Uh ... I think we think a lot alike.
This is a few months old and I used so-called "Type 2" rounds.
The codes are not changed to the IreGreen type yet.
My rounds might be a bit too small too, I don't know ...
the Tempest has a large wing.
Your fuselage round is a good size and placement looks spot on.
I like the gold spinner too.
That's the kind of feedback we need.
Oh, and this is a wholly FIS original template.

I like it! I see what you mean about the white border though... Looks sharp like that... If that's what we're doing, then I'll see what I can come up with... If they work, cool, if not... This is fun for me to try stuff out...
Although... maybe that's why the tempest came so easily to my mind...
Hmmmm....

I just had a few ideas...
None of them are completely original... I really like the "Eire" green from Falcon's Green SpitfEire (and Mustang/Wildcat/Tempest etc.). So, I used that on most of the skins I did tonight...
I started with some SBD's (3's and then 5's):
Then I had an idea for a P-51D (I know, everyone has done the 51D to death. So I put an extra nail in the coffin.):
Most of this could be transferrable to a B, or C model, I believe, with a bit of difficullty, but I'd give it a shot, if necessary...
And a close up of the propeller at rest:
I liked Falcon's Wildcat so much I decided to do my own Hellcat (a cross of the "Eire" green and a standard USN numbering scheme):
*Shelelagh optional
Then I wondered what a 109 would look like in the cool green-ness of the Irish (this one happens to be a G6, but the template I have is for most all variants):
And another "propeller-at-rest" pic:
This was a lot of fun...
Let me know what you think...
Snaphoo.

K.I.S.S Principle ...
...
Skins Collection:
1. Downloadable "Skins" folder exclusively for the :FI: common skins. This could be used to replace the current "Skins" folder. Simply save your current folder elsewhere on your drive and swap as needed, much like you would for the 4.04 and 4.05 executables.
2. Use of the white banding around the roundel for Axis acft is an excellent idea.
3. The Bi-Colour roundel is historically correct, although I prefer the Tri-colour.
Individual Skins:
1. Limit personalization to the pilot name under the Canopy. Turn on "Markings". This will slightly reduce individual file sizes, add to historical immersion, and SERIOUSLY reduce the number of skins each member will otherwise have in his cache or "Skins" folder. (I certainly don't mind being listed as "4" or "RF-C" in any of the campaigns.)
2. Nose Art can be a separate download to be added to the "Noseart" folder. This would require all who want nose art to upload their selection to a common location for warehousing and subsequent download.
Wing Markings:
1. The Celtic Harp on Fighter Wing tails.
2. As requested elsewhere, would it present any problems adding Sheila to all GA/Close Support Wing tails? It could be limited to the acft listed at Goat Skies (Excludes He-111, Ju-88, TB3, and Pe-2/3. Perhaps the Bombers could have their own logo). Sheila could be black on all Axis tails.

" Nose Art " only appears to be available when selecting "US" nationality.:FI:Heloego wrote:...

All new (1024x1024) skin .bmp files are 1Mb regardless of content.
The older (512x512) skins are still compatable @ 257k; so re-sizing may be a space saving option.
(As long as the skins name remains the same this could be a user option)

Helo!
Sneaky!
Snaphoo!
Anty Em!
Great stuff.
Swapping out your regular skins file for a new FIS file? That works? Cool!
Hellcat looks sweet and the 109 bothers me cuz it's as good or better than mine! Dirty-rassen-frassen ...
We also need LAGGS, Corsairs, IL2's and other ac on Ardmore's and other's campaigns lists.
Keep'em coming and we'll organize everything we have done by ... say ... next weekend?
Other good templates just achin' for green paint ...
Shieila would be good too. Be advised Helo, that some tails are NOT "Sheila-friendly". The lady is very particular.
F
PS: Skinners! Be sure to get some good texture overlays to help darken and dirty-up that green paint! I have a bunch available.
