SATA, ATA and pulling my hair

Question.

New/rebuilt machine has 3 hard drives.
One HUGE SATA and two smaller ATA drives.

ATA requires a master/slave relationship.

SATA doesn't care.

My plan is, since I have a new MOBO and none of the previously installed OS on the ATA drives is familiar with the entirely new MOBO, to disconnect the power from those two, format the big drive into several partitions. Install new OS and get it all stable and stuff. THEN hook up the two ATA drives and let the machine see them. Move what I want to the big guy and eventually move one of the ATA drives to the wife's computer.

When I hook up the ATA drives, should both of them be jumpered to SLAVE mode?

Am I thinking right or mixed up as usual?

Pretty much what I did when I had my SATA installed.
So yes that worked for my setup.

The IDE drives are set as Slave and Master.
(although I retained the XP boot on one for general internet use and now have dual boot)

Installing drives to new MB:-
Deleting the "Enum" file in the registry when changing MB will retain the old OS and all that you have to do is let Windows reload the drivers for the new configuration.Do this as your last action on the old setup.

Its been a long time since I transplanted a drive this way,but if you can boot to the old OS on the IDE drive you may still be able to access with Regedit and delete the "Enum" file.You may want to do this in"Safe mode", then reboot , load any Mobo drivers and the other device drivers that Windows will prompt you for.

(note this was on an old spare 1gig drive with Win 98)

When I changed the Mobo on my current (XP) machine I deleted the "Enum " first

If however youve already set up your new OS on the SATA and dont want a dual boot its probably a pointless exercise.
