Who dat?

Post by MikeVictor » Wed Jun 29, 2005 12:50 pm

Whose face is that on the pilot in the Warhawk :?:

Speaking of master skinners....

I would really like to see a skinning lessons learned & technique sub forum where folks could go to learn specific ways to do skinning using the more popular graphics packages in the squadron. It's often the simplest of tasks that can take the longest to sort out even with help utilities and searchable web sites.

One thing I'm struggling with is placement of patterns that cover multiple pieces of the template for the Spitfire. Requires a lot of time consuming trial and error, for me, so that patterns match up between contiquous pieces of the template. That is taking me more time than anything else. Perhaps someone may have somehow marked up a template indicating the interface points on the edges of the variouis pieces of the template. Perhaps a layer with some sort of markings on it that identifies interface points between all the pieces?

Hmmm, can a tool be built that allows one to paint an assembled aircraft , the way it looks in the game, and have the results stored in a template, sort of a reverse process for template creation? That would help, I think. Just a wandering pre coffee in the morning thought.

C you all tonight at TacticalS house.

If you find a spot along a meeting of two areas that has a pronounced line because of slightly different colors/shades/textures/etc., then find one of those areas on the skin, copy that area at the appropriate layer and paste it on the area of the other side of the line.

This will minimize the discontinuation.

Check your work and adjust further by adding dark/light layers under the appropriate side to take care of different shading and lighting qualities inherent in the mat and model.

I don't usually worry about exact borders, (interface points). The skin usually provides sufficient area for "overspray".
