P40B's C's and Hawk 81's will work with this skin... I'm not sure if the rivets are exactly where they are supposed to be when using the Hawk 81, but there aren't any major gaps or voids when using this one with that plane...

Stinkin' void, pulling the antenna from the middle of the freakin' roundel... will obviously need some tweakin'....

...Good points on the file size issues. Although the resolution of the files may minimally affect the "blocky" look, I wouldn't see a problem.

...The "2-Skins Folder" method is just another way to keep the :FI: proprietary skins separate from the default skins. Combining/including the :FI: skins in the current folder is fine, but a separate file wuold prevent the necessity to re-download it in the event of the need to format or restore.

Correction: Should we have a common skin, turning the Markings "ON" could result in historical overlays (ie Red Star over Irish Roundel). Perhaps be better to leave Markings "OFF".

I guess that's what needs to be hammered out... Do we want to use a generic skin, that can be used with "in-game" markings and numbers? Or do we all want to fly under our FI numbers?

I'm all for flying with our FI numbers and will help in any way I can with the creation and distribution of them. But if we decide to use one skin for all, then obviously that makes life easier for those skinner types who will be making the previously mentioned skins.

While I see the point made about the 512k vs. the 1024k skins, the advantage gained between them shouldn't be that noticable, if we're dealing with all users on some sort of broadband connection and all users have all skins loaded in their correct skin folders.

Good lord...you guys are prolific with this stuff. These skins are friggin' awesome.

I'm still gonna try and post some of mine, but again they are more traditional paint schemes with FI markings instead of the original nationality.

Just a rather extensive collection of someone else's templates, in my case Noter.

It's rather easy to add the "Eire Green" and then roundels to that when someone else did the chipping and wear.

That being said, I had an idea on Axis planes. Holding to Helo's advice on simplicity, I thought about the white band, and outline around the roundel, that Falcon had been doing. With these 110's, I decided to make them stand out by adding a black outline and band on the wing...

Let me know what you think...

That will help ID in no icon dogfights (coop furballs included) with all FI skins.

Also, jumping the gun a bit what's the prospect of personalizing the skin beyond numbers, names and nose art. I like a checked cowl, or I like my plane to have a bit more wear. Any thoughts on this?

Couldn't agree more, but if we're all using the "official" FI skins during an all FI session, then it will be quite hard to quickly identify opponent aircraft. This was my attempt to help in that prospect. If it's not liked, that's cool, these are just ideas at this point.

I love the idea of adding kills, wear, etc. to a plane that is used by an FI pilot. However, I think that once the "update" was made, you'd need to email that skin to all FI that might see the skin, I think.

After Tac made me do the math, I understand that the future :FI: skin file is gonna be pretty big. The ultimate goal is for everyone to have just the paint scheme they want. We'll eventually get everyone's name and number on their planes.

Maybe we could update the skin file each month. At the end of the month all new additions and changes could be made to the original file and on the first everyone can download and overwrite their files.

As long as the general paint scheme is still basically a FIS design, you could do any modifications you want; kill marks, nose art, different color splashes on wing tips, spinners, bands, etc.

I do think the black band is cool, but I can't help thinking that the plane is flying to a funeral,

but that might be an example of a more extreme modification if the pilot likes it.

Spend a month fiddling with your skin, send it to whomever collects the new files ... that member sends them to Genosse or whereever we end up storing this stuff ... each pilot d'l's the new file as a mater of habit into their FI skin file near the beginning of the month before they fly.

Now, this file will be big. Those still w/o high speed connections will be in trouble. Is that a problem for anyone?

What if, when this is all set up and we have all the skins that we need, we break up the files into plane designations, to lighten the load for those who might still be on dialup.
