Re: Skyrim and stuff...
Ordered on the weekend the following laptop that comes bundled with this "life stealing" game. So in a couple of weeks, and I suppose after a game patch and updated ATI/AMD drivers, sadly I suspect I too will be lost in the world of Skyrim.
Alienware M17xR3
Intel Core i7-2760QM 2.4GHz, 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 1600MHz, 17.3-inch WideFHD 1920x1080 60Hz WLED, 2GB GDDR5 AMD HD 6990M, 256GB Solid State Drive

Re: Skyrim and stuff...
I notice Frank made no mention of your laptop.
Nice machine!
I completely forgot Skyrim was coming out!
As much as I've been looking forward to it I'll have to wait a payday or two.

Thanks Dan.
No Frank just threw odd looking fairies at me.
Never owned an Alienware before. I think Rab had a desktop of theirs that didn't work out for him. Hoping for better things with this laptop. The misses needs my current laptop for college, so she foolishly authorized the purchase of another for me. Foolishly I say because she didn't specify the nature of this second laptop. Only trick now is making sure the bill isn't discovered.

That's awesome Tac! I've made a few purchases like that and have juuuuust barely come out of it with my life, a couple of times.
I always wanted an alienware lappy, but never had the guts (or money) to pull the trigger on a purchase.

Re: Skyrim and stuff...
Thanks mate. Pretty impressed with the machine so far. The build quality is readily apparent. Comparing my Studio 15 to this Alienware M17xR3 makes my old laptop seem rather cheap, and she was a nice machine. Now the misses is using it for a nursing course she is taking.
So far I have reformatted the beast and restored the Alienware look and feel. Setup a personalized lighting theme for the keyboard/grills, and started a campaign with Shogun 2 as I didn't really play it much upon release. I seem to be enjoying it much more.
With regard to Skyrim, I haven't started a campaign with it yet. I have played the opening a couple of times, and it seems to work fine on Ultra or High with 8xAA and 16AF (usually my favourite setting for TW games). Though I am using old Dell/AW drivers Skyrim is smooth. Impressed with this 6990m ATI/AMD video card.
The screen display is so much better for everything, especially gaming compared to the former resolution I had with the 15 inch monitor. This is truly a desktop replacement. The SSD drive is very noticable with regard to improved performance. Luckily there was a decent bundle with this or I would have had to get a regular drive. These things are still rather expensive, at least for laptops. I only have a 256 GB capacity (partitioned in two for programs and personal files), but it should be fine for me. I have a USB3.0 external drive that works very quickly compared to 2.0.
Anyway.

That's funny! ^^^
I'm having a blast with this game. Just hoping that I can find the guy who's out there kneecapping adventurers. Without taking one in the knee myself. Thereby relegating me to town guard, or something.

Re: Skyrim and stuff...
Dan, Dan, Dan just do the manly thing, demand that she sit down because you have something very important to say, and that she must absolutely believe it as the man of your castle.
Now with her in a submissive seating position, looking right into her eyes. No, wait. Staring sternly at her - now that's the ticket! - you just tell Cricket in no uncertain terms that . . . that you . . . that you love her very much.
Then spend the rest of your time over the holidays playing Skyrim hoping she doesn't catch you, but if she does plead that it is just a free mod for Oblivion (which is kinda true except for the free and mod part). Oh, and make sure she cannot get into your Steam account, and that you delete the e-mail they send after you make the purchase.
And just one final thing, add me back as your Steam buddy (TargetSlayer) in case you want to chat while we kill dragons and what not.

Re: Skyrim and stuff...
It is now "Sometime after Christmas." and the change has been remarkable!
I was Battleborn.
I am DRAGONBORN, with the nastiest case of Halitosis seen in Skyrim in centuries!
Comes with a nice perk...
I have been given one HOT House Carl named Lydia (ancient, honorable name, that.)!!!!!!
She doesn't mind my bad breath, and, to date, shows no trace of Clamydia.
Now I just need to DL the nude mods at skyrimnexus to round out the association.
It's so nice to be loved.
