Any Way To Overclock An HP?
I have an HP desktop (p6310y) with a pegatron violet MB and an AMD AthlonII x4 630 CPU. The CPU is clocked to 2.8G and I would like to be able to try overclocking it. However HP seems to have taken steps to prevent overclocking of their computers. The BIOS has no way to set the clock multiplier and regular software such as Clockgen does not seem to work. Any ideas on how I might be able to do a work-around?

I think that the only way would be to flash the bios to a version not HP specific (if that is possible)
Personally the attempt would give me ring twitter so if you are game make sure you are backed up to the hilt and have your HP recovery disk to hand in case of disaster. Another slightly less hairy approach would be to source a suitable replacement motherboard that ships with a slightly less Nazi approach to overclocking.

I'm a little too risk-averse for that approach- last time I tried flashing the BIOS, even using an update from the HP site, I wound up having to do a complete restore. Perhaps down the road I should just look for a bare-bones (Case, MB, CPU) system that will let me reuse everything else.

Or better yet, get a faster CPU that is compatible with the MB; http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?nam ... Hz-AM3-OEM
This will get me from 2.8 to 3.2 without having to OC.

Re: Any Way To Overclock An HP?
are you over clocking to get better performance or just for the experience?
If over clocking for performance what are your machine specs? You may get better performance if you modify other aspects of your system
