Re: New GPU- GTX570 ?
I'm looking into upgrading from my present card, a GTX 260 OC. I can't afford something as expensive as the 570, but I'm looking at the GTX 550 Ti versus the GTX 560. I would like to up the memory from 768 to 1Gig and I'm wondering if the 560 is really worth the extra cost.
My desired price range is about $200-250 US.

Re: New GPU- GTX570 ?
Tim,
Generally speaking the differences between the GTX 560 and GTX560Ti are in the Core and Memory Clock speeds, with the 560 not that much faster.
The 560Ti will give you the better bang for the buck, as both have 1 Gb Memory and run a 256-bit bus.
Your primary concern should be the available space in your case and cooling.
Card length varies, and some boards provide better cooling than others. I recommend you get one that also provides for cooling Memory and Power Circuitry, as some of them do not.

Murph if CloD is on the cards for you then consider getting a 2Gb Vram Gtx 560ti.

If it's available at this price in the States it is a bargain, cheaper than most 1GB 560's, if a little in the looks department.
CloD uses all of my 570's 1.25GB memory and seems to use about 1.5GB if available.

Should be Dan. They own Gainward and use a lot of similar parts on both makes of card, heatsinks etc. However maybe in the States they just sell the better known Gainward.

Not surprised. installed RoF demo and default (high) settings ate up all of my 1Gb ram (snyde Chinese Geforce 9800):FI:Gadje wrote:

Re: New GPU- GTX570 ?
I'm not sure what the current exchange rate is, but that might be a bit out of my price range- what is that in dollars?
The card I was looking at is the 550 Ti, not the 560 Ti. It goes for around $200-230 around here.
My case doesn't have all that much room- my current card barely fits.
I don't know if I'll be able to afford the kind of upgrade that will run ClOD anytime in the near future, unless they really find a way to optimize it before the US release.

Re: New GPU- GTX570 ?
GBP about 330.00 US.
Euro about 286.00 US.
I wouldn't worry about the price, Tim.
You being a Mail Man and all, you should have easy access to plenty of Social Security Checks. You'd only need enough to get the card, right?
Seriously, the price you're puting out there for a 550 is so close to the 560 it doesn't make much of a difference. Brands in the US run from 250.00 to 300.00 street for the Retail 570.
If you get an OEM card you save even more by not dickin' with all the crapware and extra packaging. Could knock the price range back to 200.00 to 270.00.

I found an EVGA 560ti 2 gb at my local Microcenter going for $229. Tempting.

Re: New GPU- GTX570 ?
I miss-spoke. It was the EVGA GTX 460 2 gb. I got it and it runs ROF with everything maxed out, at 48% video memory usage- beautiful!
In il2 I'm getting much better image quality, but strangely not better FPS. I'm still looking for the "sweet spot" with il2. Even though the FPS is about the same, I have to look really close to see any hint of micro-stutters, so it is much smoother looking- maybe I'm too focused on FPS?

Re: New GPU- GTX570 ?
What I found with IL2 is that it is far more processor bound. Anything over a 8800 and 2Gb of RAM will let you max out IL2 but it needs a quick CPU to keep up frames. As the game does not handle multiple cores efficiently you can think that you have the mutts nuts with a quad core but if its running at 2.66MHz you can be worse off that if you had a Pentium 4 at 3Ghz.
