A Nice Pair of Jugs
Conman's active imagination will be enlisting us into the 397th Fighter Squadron/368th Fighter Group soon. I'll be attempting to skin their paint scheme. Fortunately, of all the impossible, checker-boarded, swoopy-lined engine cowling paint designs out there, the 397th is relatively easy. Only a red nose, yellow stripes, blue codes, full dorsal non-reflective band and the ubiquitous nose art are required for this job.
After looking at dozens of wartime photos of the squadron, I've come to the conclusion that few, if any, of the aircraft had polished metal skins, so I'll be dirtying it up a wee bit.
If anyone has any input to put in, let's hear it.
Yes, I'll be sending these to all the right sort of folk, but I'm sure these skins will not be required, only appreciated by the mission designer.

Connor, did I get the squadron right and will it be the P-47D-27 or "bubbletop" mark? S

WIP
Doing some updating on my old metal Jug template with graphics, texture, metal, 3D, opacity and matting tests.

PS: I'm getting some conflicting info on in the 368th FG. Some sources say that this is typical of the 397th FS, but I think the red nose is the right one.

Okay Conman ... I'm finding about 50% red nose and 50% blue swoosh, so if you can steer me toward the scheme you want, I'll paint 'er up.

I renamed the title. Yeah, it's not original, but it's nice just havin' it around ... y'knowhaddImean?
Okay, I'll finish up the red nose and then do the blue >shudder< swoop. Y'know ... the matting on this lug is more insidious than the P-38; mirrored, reversed, inverted, cropped areas galore!
Don't stop me Connor. I'm committed ... in more ways than one.

PS: Of the eight color photos, color profiles, model photos, period paintings and copies of lithographs, I have seen eight different blues. So, I'm makin' my own flippin' blue.
