Yup,
The marketing of this title leaves a little to be desired.

I read a wee bit about 777 Studios, Richard. They said that it usually takes three months to receive a product like this and then set up the marketing, etc. Apparently, they're goal is to do it in two. Well, more power to 'em ... but one day over the 25th and I get out my crayons and start writing nasty letters.

Re: Rise of Flight soon!
According to FS Pilot Shop "Official" release and shipping date is now 25th June - so two days not 2 weeks
As it's my birthday soonish I think I may take the plunge - after all Richard will need someone to shoot down

Re: Rise of Flight soon!
Only if I wind up the Elastic band really tight Neil.
Im giving this one a go even though its started getting a bit of a pounding in some of the forums- too few planes, only one map, internet connection required, all add-ons payware, high spec requirements etc, etc.
As I see it this is the first next gen sim out and it is time to start looking beyond IL2. The biggest problem with RoF is so far as i can tell the limited number of players who can join a server together- I think anything over five is a problem at the moment. If they want this title to thrive and develop this will have to be addressed so for the time being I'm not that worried. I've got beyond the internet connection thing as soon as it became clear its not pay as you fly. If Im playing IL2 offline my internet connection is still up- whats the difference ?
As for payware we in the IL2 crowd have to a degree ended up with unrealistic expectations so far as additional content is concerned- Olegs 'patches' and more recently the free content from AAA have supported a belief that 'we've paid for the game so anything else should be free'. Developers and publishers need to be commercially viable to continue to exist and that means paying for their products. Aside from fixing whats originally broke I would expect to pay for new stuff.
High specs- Go with the flight sim territory. Look at what the modded '46 game needs in comparision to even the unmodded version.
I don't expect RoF to end up being the platform for IL2's replacement here (or in many places at all really) but in a market where new sims are a rarity I think its worth buying to show support for the genre and to those who are prepared to take the risk of putting something new onto the table.
As I said before I expect a few old hands to pick this up and fly online. Beyond those few there is still Canvas Knights on the horizon for everyone else.
I also want to put a fan on top of my monitor and wear goggles while flying as soon as ever possible.

Re: Rise of Flight soon!
Right-o Neil, but right now my new machine is sitting in pieces on the table still missing a cpu, motherboard and Vista. I figure I can mug a few more old ladies or go to that special motel to get the dough to buy the rest in a month or two.... Your new machine should eat this for breakfast Stu ...

Re: Rise of Flight soon!
Go 7 instead of Vista.
compare vista to Windows Me - half alpha/beta unfinished product.
And 7 seems to be at least a solid gamma
