Hi guys,
Ok, been awile since I've played with a flight sim of anykind.... Jane's longbow 2 ring any bells. I got a copy of Il2 1946 as a gift, only recently loaded it up. Being a believer that multiplayer is better than single player, I've been looking for an online group to fly with. Having flipped through the forums you guys appear to be the right friendly bunch for a new guy.
In the real world... My name is John and I hail form VIrginia, USA, 41yr old 2nd generation Irish American cop.
Wainscotting...hmmmm.
Cheers,
John

Hi John
Welcome to the forums If you are looking for a friendly bunch then you have come to the right place. I too have only just got into IL2 1946 after years out of a flight sim of any kind and they have taken me under their wing and taught me all sorts of tricks. Mostly how to bail out...
If you have any questions, please feel free and I'll try to help out where I can.
Cheers

Up there the world is divided into bastards and suckers. Make your choice.
That's not flying, that's just falling with style.
What is that mountain goat doing way up here in the clouds?
Death is just nature's way of telling you to watch your airspeed.
Hey, everybody — watch this!
I am not afraid of crashing, my secret is . . . just before we hit the ground, I jump as high as I can.

Re: Hello
Hello John, welcome to the forums !
I see that you have the stock version of Il-2 1946 if that's right?
Well at least on our sunday sessions we use an advaced, modded version wich allows the use of new maps and planes beside other nice visual effects.
I'm not sure if you're already on the mod train or the usual 4.08m train.
You can find us not only here in the forums but in the Hyperlobby, wich is a little tool fo find other members and to host and join gaming servers.

We identify ourself with the =FI= or :FI: tags.
Hope to see you in the virtual skies,
Airway

Re: Hello
Thanks guys...
Airway: Yes, my current version is the stock version. If there is a more interesting mod version I'm all for it. Where can I find it.

Re: Hello
The first thing before modding is copying the whole stock version installation folder to a new folder that you rename "Il-2 modded version" for example.
That ensures that a fully working stock installation remains on your computer.
Then you have to download the so called "Unified installer" here:
http://allaircraftarcade.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=58
You have to register there to see the download links.
That's 8 files making a big 1,7 Gigybyte in total - sounds shocking but it's worth it.
This downloaded mod you install over the newly made "Il-2 modded version" .
That should be it.
We use Temapeak for audio communication. You can find that important tool here if you don't have yet:
http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloads
Download and install the windows client.
I send you the communication info's via PM
Best regards,
Airway
