Hi there, lads.
After some time in exile in Warsaw with my laptop I am buying a desktop PC. Therefore I'd like to ask you a question. Should I go Intel Core2Quad or Core2Duo?? I was thinking of either Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 2,40 GHz or Intel Core2 Duo E8500 3,16GHz.
the rest of the specs would be as follows:
Mainboard: Asus P5Q Pro, P45, DualDDR2-800, SATA2, RAID, GBLAN, FW, ATX, Core2
RAM: DDR2 4096MB 800MHz Geil Ultra (2x 2048MB) CL4
HD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 750GB, SATA/300, 32MB cache, NCQ
DVD drive: LG GH22LS30
Soundcard: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
GF: Radeon HD4870 MSI 1024MB
LCD: HP 24" LCD LP2465
OS: WinXP Pro SP3
A/C: Be quiet Straight Power E5-700W
Any suggestions or advices?
Hope to be flying again soon;)

Re: New PC
Neither do I have an Intel processor, nor a Quad Core.
Have an DualCore with 3 Ghz per core and what I know is that QuadCores are not that fast per core.
So I guess it depends on software and if it will support QuadCore processors to get the full speed out of the processor, but I don't really know.
I only know Microsoft FSX supports quad cores processors.
But what will bring the future?
I don't know.
Maybe another fella can give you a deeper sight into these hightec things - I always have an open eye for that.

Re: New PC
My non expert opinion is go for the E8600, IL-2 doesn't really benefit from quad cores, and the E8600 if you look at the forums is capable of some serious overclocks on just air cooling.
If you buy a quad core now, by the time IL-2's successor comes out you will be on a Nehalem cpu any way.
My 2 pennies worth.

Re: New PC
Talked to a friend of mine who works in an IT store and he advised to go Quad, as newer software will make bigger use of it. I do play MSX and if that improves the framerate than it makes me feel very happy;)
So my final set is:
Intel Core2Quad 6600 4x2,4GHz,
Asus P5Q Pro mainboard
4 GB RAM Geil Ultra CL4
Creative SB Extreme Gamer
Asus GTX280 with 1024 MB RAM
Seagate Barracuda 640 GB
LG DVD RW
24' HP LP2465
WinXP HE
Methinks it should run Il-2 and SH series and CoD series pretty nice;) And I hope to have GTA IV and Black Shark run at decent framerate as well;) Anyway, no further upgrade of that PC is expected to take place soon;)
Ordered quiet CPU fan and quiet case fans;)
Today I'm going home for 2 days, taking my TrackIR with to Warsaw;)
So I hope to fly with you soon;)not this nor next weekend as I will be on a train at that time, but soon;)
