Just been checking out sky news and saw this:

Pity - they should have known though -
The main undercarriage unit is a clean design, but apparently not an example of good engineering, as undercarriage-related accidents happened all too often on Bf 109s.

Yeah, more 109s were lost in takeoff/landing accidents than were shot down. And a LOT of them were shot down. Old Willie must have been well connected politically to have kept this airframe in production so long- I once read somewhere that Galland requested that the 109 be phased out entirely in favor of the 190.

this proofs that the quality off those Germonian planes are rubbish .....

but big =D] for the pilot nice forced landing..outstanding steering!
