Heavy metal experiment - P51
Started playing with metal finish after a request at Ubi.
Here how it's looking with the planeshine mod.

Snee,
I haven't done the planeshine thing yet, but so far your fiddyone is looking good.
The single most effective thing I do to get a half-way decent metal effect is to:
- copy the rivet layer
- invert it to white
- blur it to gaussian blur=1 (or blur 'til the rivet is blurred to three pixels wide)
- reduce opacity to get that shiney dimple effect.
There's tons of other tricks and then the whole highlight thing.
good luck, it can get frustratin'

I usually do 4 rivet layers : black, white, white blurred, black blurred - and offset layers for 3D.:FI:Falcon wrote: copy the rivet layer

Ty.
Well second set of pics is with "Avalas" planeshine mod; which is what really set me off on this . It seemed to me that a lot of the available metal skins were too light, especially when using the mod. Wanted to do something that would look good using standard or modded il2.
Template was extracted from void , 4 layers for rivets and panels - light, dark, highlight and shadow. and Mech layer from Goodwood.
Just a few details to touch up now

Good design decisions Snee!
Yeah, with some of my metal skins w/perfect settings, all my metal work washes out to white sometimes.
