I have an old stencil jig* thingie that might help you there, but if I do a lot of member skins I just put the number under the cockpit.

The Mk.VIII is wery, wery different from the Vb so it took longer than I though to do it.

One really good thing about this wee project is that I got to update a very old template. If anyone would like a historic VIII, let me know.
