Joystick problem

Post by :FI:Nellip » Sat Jan 20, 2007 10:14 am

Well after over 4 years loyal service my wonderful MS FFB2 stick has died :(

Cause of death? The wife spilled a full mug of tea over it :x

The joystick and buttons still work but the FFB doesn't - on the game controllers diagnostic in control panel it says there is no power to it?

Anyone got any thoughts on either home or professional repair before I dig deep and buy a new one on ebay?

1) switch cleaner spray

2) mop over with some soft dry paint brushes (artists not B&Q specials)

3) blow dry with a not too hot hair dryer

4) if all else fails a liberal dose of WD40 to affected area - mop with tissue after

5) if that fails it looks like e-bay

Now about this Joysyick . . . .

check the power supply with a meter

It sounds daft but if the tea had sugar in it then there's probably not a lot that can be done. Otherwise just let it completely dry off. The FFB thingy is usually a LV motor with an off-set weight, so sugar + motor ain't good! :(

No sugar thankfully :)

But it's dried overnight :(

Looks like I will have to take it apart and take a look.

Wish me luck?

Unplug the joystick and soak it in warm distilled water (DO NOT USE SOAP), dry completely. If it still doesn't work, attach a red tag and dispose of IAW local procedures (dumptser) Typically contact cleaner will not remove food type contamination from keyboards and such.
