My USB optical mouse quit on me last night. When I re-boot it's active again while Windows loads, but quits soon after. Even the buttons are dead when it fails.
I've done the mandatory scans for adware and viruses.
Unplugging and re-plugging the USB show unknown device.
Tried it on a different hub. Even tried to tempt it with some cheese.
My guess is that the warranty ran out yesterday.

"The marksman hitteth the target partly by pulling, partly by letting go. The boatsman reacheth the landing partly by pulling, partly by letting go." (Egyptian proverb)

...Microsoft Mouse?
Sorry to hear it, Sneaky! Seems like the worst possible time, always.
The warranty ran out last year on my MX700. Still running strong.
...and wear your feckin' mask!!!!!

That's why I bought myself a Logitech wireless mouse. Only thing it needs batteries so I bought a recharger also.

I've got a MicoSoft Wireless/Cordless mouse (CEO560); love it.
Have you replaced the battery in your mouse? Sometimes they'll fail with giving the warning first.
Oh, of course your warranty is up!

Actually , dying is about the best thing it could have done.
1600 dpi of Laser guided Saitek now.
Silky smooth pans and zooms now. Wheel is v.good for flaps.
Better with PSP too.
