a sheepish g'day

Post by adam906 » Sun Dec 17, 2006 7:50 am

Hi,

I'm only new to high-speed internet and am really interested in flying Il2 online, but have no idea on what to do or how to go about getting into a server...

Would love to get online with a '109 (I'm no fan of the Pacific) but will need idiot proof intsructions.

Oh, yeah, I live in Australia - New South Wales - and although I don't drink Guiness I do drink like a fish and swear like a trooper 8)

Hi adam,

Not sure about idiot proof, we have some hardcore idiots around here.

Your best bet is to get hold of the just released Sturmovik '46 DVD. this will load you up to the latest game version without any patching required.

As to the rest (if you haven't done it already) you will needto download hyperlobby through which we play online and teamspeak, through which we er...speak.

links are posted elsewhere by one of the organised types but are below as well:

http://hyperfighter.sk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Cheers !

:?
109 aspirations of grandeur.....

Great plane, but FAR from an easy one to fight well. I LOVE them. Speed can be your freind and your enemy at the same time..

The F series are the ultimate "knife fighters" of the series, with the Early Gustavs close behind. The later war planes get heavy and lose a lot of the agility of the earlier versions. Learn to fight "on the edge of the stall and always have enough room below to point that nose down and run like HELL if it gets out of hand. The elevator gets useless at really high speeds so don't what till you're on the deck to try to pull up.. ( don't ask me how I know this ;) )

One of these years I'll get my game machine up and running again and get back to flying my beloved 109's.

Welcome to the board. :)

Padre Willie

Correct Willie. The best in the lot are the F-4s. Good balance of speed and firepower. Later Bf-109s were used as bomber-interceptors ergo their use of heavy cannon at the expense of agility. When I used to fly online with the Hells Gazelles I often used the Il-2 as a fighter. In one afternoon I downed 3 Bf-109s. My slow speed and my trusty AI rear-gunner did 'em in.

I've taken out a whole flight of Il-2's offline in one pass with the late model big gun birds. All you have to do is turn up the juice till she's runnin about 450-500kph, come in low on their six, pull the nose up a touch, give 'em a dose, lather , rinse, repeat as needed.

With the earlier birds you have to actually AIM for a soft spot.

Even MORE fun in a Dora. :D

Bah! I'll have to add some RATO pods to my IL-2 and zip away!
