Part 1) Installing the game

Install IL2FB CD and fly a test mission in Quick mission builder
Merged install of AEP CD and fly a test mission in Quick mission builder
Merged install of PF CD and fly a test mission in Quick mission builder

Download and extract to game folder

Megapatch 386mb

This will take you from PF CD install to 4.04m

Download the patch here

PE2 Download

A note on "Boonty Box" :-

You should save your existing (4.04m) Il2FB.exe and IL2.exe files before updating to PE2.

Replace these when PE2 has been installed.

This will stop your system looking for "Boonty Box" every time you start FB

Switching versions:-
If you still want to be able to fly on 4.04m servers, Joint Ops flight school etc.do the following

In the Il2 game folder find "files.sfs", make a copy to a temporary folder and re-name it "files.404" before installing PE2 add on .

Install PE2 add on, copy the "files.sfs" after the install and paste that in the temp folder.
Rename as "files.405".

Open "Notepad" and copy these 2 lines to document:-

DEL files.SFS
COPY files.404 files.sfs

Save as 404.bat in Il2 main folder.

Open a new Notepad doc and copy these lines to it.:-

DEL files.SFS
COPY files.405 files.sfs

Save as 405.bat in Il2 main folder.

Now copy and paste the re-named files from the temp folder back to the main IL2 folder.
If you make desktop shortcuts to the "404.bat" and "405.bat" switching versions is just one click on the desktop.

Better safe than sorry
It is always a good Idea to have a backup copy of "conf.ini"
"User" folder is worth backing up too as this will have your Pilot profiles
and key assigns stored.

4.04m/4.05/4.07 version switcher

No DVD exe file for '46
If youre also using the version switcher extract to (example):-

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\il2_ver07

As this is where the 4.07 exe file is copied from.
Otherwise the .exe will revert to the original 4.07 next time you switch versions.

Important first step:-

switch to 4.07

copy folder- "il2_ver07" and paste to desktop

it contains these files

4.07 seems to be a "Dead Duck" now, no servers are running it.

Just check folders re-named as below.

Rename "il2_ver07" to "il2_ver071" in main game folder.

copy from main game folder

files.sfs
il2_core.dll
il2_corep4.dll
il2fb.exe
mg_snd.dll
mg_snd_sse.dll

Paste to "il2_ver071" in main game folder.
copy folder- "il2_ver07" from desktop and paste to main game folder.

The Pe2 paid add on is a bit of a "dead duck" now.

That was game version 4.05 and most online play will be moving to 4.07 which is the new "46" version. The "46" DVD includes all previous game versions and therefore you get the 4.05 content as part of this.

I think Ubi are not doing a lot of distribution in the USA but some online retailers are stocking it.

It's the whole enchilada in one neat package on DVD and upgrades automatically to v4.07.

I just ordered it.

If I include the original Il-2 Sturmovik and all the time spent DLing the patches I spent over $300.00 on this series.

So $49.95 + shippping is a damned good deal!!!

Do I need to uninstall 4.05 and then install the full DVD 4.07 or install 4.07 in a separate folder?

No need to uninstall it.

It actually installs it into a different default folder. Mine went into
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft

rather than the default location for the FB genre which went into
C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft

Hello,

I finally got everything up and running with the switcher and the latest patches. At this point it may be nice to edit the reference to PE-2 out of the initial post, since they're of similar availability and 1946 contains PE-2. I wonder if there's more people like The Killer who find PE-2 before they ask about it.

Also, sorry if it's there and I couldn't find it, but here's the info about the 4.071 patch:

I checked all the links I could find, both here and at the SimHQ forums, and they all seem to have expired.

If anybody still has the latest version of the switcher download, kindly PM me. Finally trying to get all the techie stuff done!

Well I'm either an idiot, or else Sneaky sneakily updated his link for the switcher up above.... hope it's the latter, but either way disregard what I wrote above!

For the benefit of those who have not yet installed Switcher...

After installation use it as follows:
1. Double-click the appropriate icon (4.04, 4.05, 4.07, 4.071). This runs the batch file to change the version ONLY. It wil NOT launch IL-2.
2. NOW click (or double-click) your Il-2 1946 icon. This one actually launches the version to which you just switched. You should see your selected version in the IL-2 Launch screen.
