46 - A Wanton Goddess or Disappointing Tease??

Post by Badger » Tue Oct 17, 2006 9:05 am

Tally Bally Ho Intrepid Warriors of the Air!!

There's been quite a kaffuffle in the UBI forums about the forthcoming IL2 release and it's validity as a WW2 simulator. You may have covered this amongst yourselves, but what's your catch on it?

Personally I'm looking forwards to it, but I don't think servers in HL or on UBI will include many of the aircraft anyway. I mean, how many servers do you see hosting a game with 262's at the moment? (Which I think is a shame: If you can fly the damned thing without setting your engines alight then I say "Wizard Show to you"!!).

Well as I said; I'm salivating!! Huzzar!! :D

Personally I am more interested in the Manchuria add-on and any new maps.

Think the 46 add-on will be a bit of fun for a while, then most of the aircraft in it will never see the light of day online, as you say.

Still more.......is more! maybe an early jet DF would be fun. There will be plenty jet available it seems.

Absolutely - More is more, so a big thumbs up there!!

262 were a feature of '44 & '45 so I would like to see more in HL etc. but that's the perogative of the host I suppose.

The IL-10 looks quite juicy, so roll on November!!

I´m also looking forward to the DVD compilation. New maps, new objects and new planes will give some of us the kick back they need to return to their roots (!!!) ;)

And maybe the jets will rock ... who knows????

I've ordered it from here, they tend to send things out pretty quickly.

IMHO I think PF on a whole is wearing a bit thin. I won't bother with any add-ons at this moment as I think Oleg has flipped his lid with allowing inclusion of aircraft that never even left the drawing board. I'm more holding out for BoB as that seems to be a breath of fresh air. I'm disappointed that they opted for fantasy aircraft rather than making, say the heavy bombers flyable or extending more maps and even ground troops.

Can't say that the 46 aircraft do anything for me but I am looking forward to new maps and ground objects.

I understand the point on a heavy bomber, but ultimately 1C and Ubi are in this to make money and they will likely shift more boxes to customers for this 46 add on than by just adding a new flyable aircraft. Flight sims are pretty much a minority interest, compared to say FPS or sports games, so if buying the 46 add on helps keep 1C in business then so be it. Seems a small price to me for all the enjoyment the IL2 series has given me over the last 4 years.

Like Nellip has said so eloquently, I will buy it out of principle. And yes, the new planes probably wont be all that great, but there are all the new maps that will be excellent.

I for one am looking forward to this and hope that we here in the US can get our hands on it in a timely fashion.

I am a bit wary of the fantasy planes too but I don't doubt that if we chuck them into a coop there will be some laughs to be had. I cant moan about jets because Im spending more time in Lock On than IL2 at the moment !.

I am looking forward to BoB but the prospect of a new PC to play it and it being such a limited plane set and location does give me some concern- I think it will have to be a jaw dropper to do well commercially and be followed up quickly with expansions to cut it with a crowd that is used to having 200 + planes to fly. Knights of the Sky is if anything interesting me more than BoB at the moment, I would love to have a really good WWI sim- Over Flanders Fields is nice but there is still CFS3 lurking under there!.

Badger- keep your throttle movements really slow in a 262 until you are over 60%- then you can whack it about as hard as you like without a flameout.

A fantastic mix of opinions and no mistakes!!

If there's a significant increase in game-play and features then I'll buy it, but I expect patches (i.e. fixes) to be free. Interesting point about the flyable heavies; do you think we'll see them in another add-on if they don't hit their sims sales projections? We'll have to wait and see. Maybe they could find a better and less abrupt way of packaging their wares (e.g. seperating the components and selling them) and keeping their coffers fluid, but I'm sure they thought of that (cut to a scene where Oleg and his management team are having a 'money fight')....

What is worrying is that the natural version progression in the HL will mean that some players who don't want to shell out another £30 (youngsters etc.) will be left out in the cold. :(

The additional DVD has sold it to me (who am I kidding - I'm so shallow I could be paddled in!), but as I menioned; the other aircraft (some of which were used in the last weeks of the war) and the maps will make it worth it.

Superb recce by Mr Ardmore: I've just ordered my copy.

Thanks to Scott for the 262 tip - I'm gonna give that a wirl!!

I will buy the EVERYTHING-ON-ONE-DISK thing.

That alone is worth it.
