A Question of PC Power?

Post by Badger » Wed Oct 11, 2006 11:34 am

Glorious Flyers

I've been looking at the Squadrons screenshots in absolute awe! Not only at the artistic composition, but also at the clarity and definition.

If it's not too bold; what's the spec of the graphics card etc. on the system that they were taken from?

Many thanks.

Hi, TMB!

Thanks a lot for the flowers, mate. I really much appreciate your compliment ... :D

But I´ve to disappoint you a bit. In my rig works an Athlon 2600+ at 1,9 GHz and 1 GB RAM. My ATI 9800 Pro grahpic card is a bit outdated as well but is able to cope to replay IL-2´s .ntrk recordings in a resolution of 1280x960 with perfect ingame graphic settings.

A bit of Photoshop magic (sharpen pictures and coloured filters) does the rest of the job ...

As you can see there´s no big PC power needed to create these screen shots, TMB! :)

Hi Genosse

No, not at all - the quality of the images enhances the over all feel web site, so they are a major plus. (Either that or I'm just shallow, but I am a chap and we go for the 'visual' don't we? ;) )

Well that's splendid news any way! I must say that I'm going to have to look at my conf.ini file, drivers and IL2 settings again. I need more 'crystal-clear-gorgeousness' from my set up before I'm satisfied.

Thanks again!

Tally Ho!

Well that will teach me to fiddle around. Last night I downloaded the latest nVidia drivers to 'enhance' my gaming experience and now it's about a thousand times worse. Damn those 'more stable but worse quality' seductive updates!!! Damn them!!

Thank goodness for restore points.

Fume!!

Thanks for those words of assurance.

I just can't believe that a driver which would released with the card (if I bought it now) is worse. I must investigate further before I opt to restore!

Well, I managed to optimise the latest nVidia driver and certainly got the performance I was after, but no matter how hard I tried and what I changed in the conf file, my sparkley water and skin definition just wouldn't come back! :(

So without further ado, I deinstalled that driver and now everything is back to it's usual gorgeousness. Strangley however, external views now seem to be giving me an increased frame rate and an all-round smoother feel.... Windows - you've gotta love it!!

I did bounce around a number of drivers at the beginning of Sept. Ended up settling on the 84.21 driver set. Everything else seemed to cause problems with either water or texture holes in aeroplanes.
