"He who warned, uh, the British that they weren't gonna be takin' away our arms, uh, by ringing those bells, and um, makin' sure as he's riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be sure and we were going to be free, and we were going to be armed."

Yeah, My favorite bit was when he was climbing up that brightly lit shaft and, the goofy thing, all of a sudden appears on his back. Scaring the crap out of him, and scaring the crap out of the audience ! I think John Carpenter did that, then went on to "The Thing". Guess he thought that if he can scare the crap out of people with a goofy red beach ball in a brightly lit spaceship, he can give people like me long lasting truama with exploding tentacled husky dogs.
"Give me a full bottle in front of me, instead of a full frontal lobotomy!"
Silent Running
Is actually one of the only movies portraying Bruce Dern as protagonist; he's so often cast as the 'badguy', but If your'e interested in seeing him as a total creep, rent "The Cowboys" with John Wayne. incredible. (Cannibal Corpse [The Bleeding] playing in backround..)
