Found this over on the History Channel site.Only ever heard about this operation briefly so should be interesting to see a documentary on it.Absolutely ingenious idea!

Interesting indeed! The Japanese were hoping that these incendairy balloons would start forest fires and later on they were planning to use deadly chemicals. I wonder if the US Air Force used fighters to shoot them down? Just like the pilots used to do during the 1st World War.

I,ve heard about the Japanese ballon bombs before. Very ingenius program; however, the people that lauched them neglected to consider that when the bombs fell in the forests, the forest were wet (at that time of year), not an ideal situation to start fires.

I hope to see the article on TV.
