LinkSys Cable Gateway

Anyone here use a LinkSys WCG200 Cable Gateway?

I'm trying to get the damn thing configured so I can host, but it's like slamming my head against a wall.

The .pdf Owners' Manual gives me a link to an "Online Configuration Tool", but I am unable to connect.

The manual says to connect to 192.168.0.1 to use the utility.

I'm lucky if I get a "timeout".

Help! I would like to host some GA training Missions, but.....

Have you ever had this router running Helo ?.

Its probably not it but I used to have a Linksys router and when it blew up on me got another to replace it. Linksys have almost identical models for cable telephone and conventional telephone systems - if you get the wrong one....it wont work in a month of Sundays.

If you have the right router are you getting the adsl light on the front? if not check your phone line and filters. If you are connecting to the router via a network cable swap it out- I've had a duff cable before and a duff LAN connection on seperate occasions- if its the latter try using a USB adaptor to connect the router

The http address you've got is correct so the problem sounds like its with the router itself, the phone connection to it, or the connection to your PC.

If all else fails do what I did- throw it out a window and buy another brand!

Well you would not be able to connect to it anyways as that is an internal IP address.

No good. Timed out because it is the default link 192.168.1.1.

OK I misread your original post actually, so please try this:

1) Go to Start -> RUN
2) Type "cmd" without the quotes
3) Type "ipconfig /all" without the quotes
4) Hit ENTER
5) Write down what it says for your DEFAULT GATEWAY
6) Enter http:// plus that into your browser and it should take you to your router configuration page.
7) Open the Necessary ports for IL2 hosting.

Went to the ubizoo links again, and used the latest info you gave.

1. Your latest info got me to the Linksys setup page.

2. Tried to set a Static IP using information from the links, but was unable to connect after re-booting the gateway.

3. Returned to Linksys setup page, and reversed all changes (changed back to Dynamic IP) and can connect again.


In the cmd window, "ipconfig /all" I have the following information:

OK you need to set a static IP for your desktop system using these values:


.IP Address...............................192.168.0.10
...Subnet Mask............................255.255.255.0
...Default Gateway.......................192.168.0.1
...DHCP Server............................192.168.0.1
...DNS Servers............................68.87.85.98
..................................................68.87.69.146


Go to Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network Connections and right click on your Ethernet Adapter

- Left click on PROPERTIES
- Select Internet Protocol TCP/IP and hit properties
-Check "Use Follwing IP and DNS"

Enter the data I posted above in the corresponding fields and apply/ok everything.

....Now your PC has a static IP address.



Now go to your router and find waht I think is Gaming and Applications set up and forward all the ports to 192.168.0.10 for IL2.

I currently still have connectivity, so I'll check to see if someone can join me.

If all goes well, should I set up additional forwarding for HL and TS?

They already seem to be working, though no settings in the router.

....So far TS is OK, and HL is OK at least for the usual join.

Only problem is trying to host...and the whole point is to be able to host.


Followed SR's instructions to the letter, disabled everything in the Lynksys setup pages, yet everyone times out when trying to connect to me.

You will need to set up port forwarding in the Linksys set up



No need to make additional settings for HE/TS, you are the client in respect of those two applications. For FB you are the server.

You will also need to set up a rule in your fireawall(s) to allow connections to be made to your computer. You should be able to limit the connections to being made on port 21000.

Thats the place I was trying to tell you about m8. You need to forward port 21000 to your PC's static IP address 192.168.0.10 and you should be all set.
