Re: June 20th, 2012
I've d/l'd the HSFX 6 pack and will try to screw that up over the weekend. Never had a UP install but from what Mike was saying an updated version of that should be on the way soon so I think I would be better off waiting for that before taking the plunge.
No idea how RoF weapon mods will be implimented online but based on the way things are at present i'm not confident of reasoned outcome.

Yes it is possible. At least for HSFX 5 and UP3, I have both installed and use JSGME to swap between the two.:FI:Ardmore wrote:.... Though I do believe you can have UPS and hsfx installed and select through jsgme.Vin

Reinstalling Il2 now - and downloading HSFX6 at the same time. Mind you, this torrent thing takes an age!

First try was a bust but after a clean re-install its up and running. Copied over another copy of the stock version for a UP install when that is out.

Re: June 20th, 2012
You had better luck than me Richard.
Clean reinstall and then an overnight download of HSFX6 but no joy - cannot get HSFX to run, I enable it in JSGME but on starting up I only get stock 4.11.1?
Very odd.

Re: June 20th, 2012
Just a thought Neil but check your IL2 folder. it is easy to misdirect the installer when putting in HSFX- I did it and ended up with a copy of the game within the game.
If you have an IL246 folder in your IL246 you have done the same thing.
I think last night went reasonably smoothly but it was a bit of deja vu. To work we are going to have to set out the basics of which version we are going to run and how many re-starts are available. As to version I don't really mind but if only for the extra maps a modded version seems to make sense to me. I am happy to put in a copy of UP when the new version arrives and already have HSFX6. I would suggest that we all agree that the lastest version of the game (or mod pack) be accepted as the version we fly.
As to restarts I think one per mission except in exceptional circumstances would be reasonable.

Re: June 20th, 2012
I agree that it should be the hsfx 6.0 as the standard (as per Richards post regarding maps), and we can look at UP when it comes out and see if its worth moving over to that. But then I have jsmge installed and its no bother to switch between stock 4.11.1 and hsfx.
As to restarts, I'm fine with any amount, sometimes its not anyones fault, as long as its not latecomers. I suggest everyone start getting on at 19:00 and sort out any problems then, then we can get flying at 19:30 prompt.

Re: June 20th, 2012
I'm older than I was when we did this last Vin, I have less life to give to two dozen re-starts than I did before. Taking into account s**t happens I think it is fair enough to expect us to be able to get off the deck after one try ?, hell, call it two ?, anything ?
Seriously, if it is a tough call like a fully loaded carrier takeoff yes, I know how difficult that is and three or four goes isn't an issue. Its when its time and again not sorting the basics like flight controls, tail wheel locks etc, etc. Except for the last mission there is always the next time. We went through people disconnecting over not getting any flying in (it is one area wher ROF shines over IL2 btw) and I would think we are all big enough boys now to agree a certain cutoff where we get on and run the mission with the pilots who get airbourne. Another solution is to put into new missions a flight with an airstart so the 'perenially challenged' don't have to run the gauntlet of parting company with the ground ?

There is a reason that the divine powers in aircraft design produced aircraft with rear seats; and that reason is to aid people who are challenged with the whole take off aspect of flying, it also helps with their navigation and all the other trickery aspects of naval flying like aircraft ID and all the rest. But pulling on me old history hat if Vin is making missions based on VF-17, then their will be very little carrier duty, t'will be up the slot in corsairs for us boys ah happy days, we just need frank now to run a few recons up to Bougainville "No worries M8 we will look after you it will be the safest 1:45mins of your life"

Re: June 20th, 2012
Richard, I feel your pain, I've been through agonies restarting missions for those who wont practice carrier takeoffs in their own time but wait until we're all online before making a mess of it. If we make it one restart, then we better make sure that the problem that caused it, either human or controls is sorted before the second start, if not able to rectify quickly then that person sits out the mission and joins the next.
Ah, now that was a mission Greg, still brings a smile to my face. Your right about VF-17, they flew most missions from Ondongo and then after R & R it was up to Bouganville at Torokina, only one mission was from a carrier and that was when they flew a CAP over the carriers and landed refueled and did a second CAP. The majority of their missions were escort to Rabaul (no maps) or the usual mix of CAP or escort for rescue craft. Methinks I'll use the airfields to the North of Bouganville as Rabaul.

mea culpa. I hadn't flow since mid May (ROF) and I forgot about the torque on the MIG 3 on the roll out and pitched over.Taking into account s**t happens I think it is fair enough to expect us to be able to get off the deck after one try
I got it up the next go though....
So is it HSFX 6.0 as standard ?

Re: June 20th, 2012
Not written in stone (corporate speak.... ) Eamon, though it offers the most options for mission makers. If done right then theres no reason not to have the stock version and hsfx 6.0 in the one install. Now if someone wants to start adding modded Aircraft or any modded part of il2 (outside of hsfx 6.0) into their own install then they can expect to have loads of problems when going online. So is it HSFX 6.0 as standard ?
So, its hsfx 6.0 for modded il2 or 4.11.1 stock.

I'm as bad as the next guy (as you know). On Sunday I stuffed a Mig straight into the tarmac on my takeoff roll.:FI:Armitage wrote:mea culpa.
