Folks!

Code: Select all

No one has the intention of erecting a wall!
Walter Ulbricht, First Secretary of the Socialist Unity Party and GDR State Council chairman

The construction of the "Anti-Fascist Protection Rampart" (German: Antifaschistischer Schutzwall) in Berlin started on August 13th, 1961 and finalized the devision of Germany into the FRG and GDR. According to scientific researches between 136 and 245 East German citizens died on and at its fundaments while trying to "cross" this Iron Curtain.

Finally after 28 years the wall was opened to East German citizens on November 9th, 1989 so that all GDR citizens were allowed to visit West Germany and West Berlin.

One of many attempts to escape from the GDR is the following example of three brothers I'd like to present to you. You might already know it but this courageous manoeuvre is still fascinating me ...

Sorry but it's kept in German but I think the graphics and the video clips will explain what happend there ...

To all those who died at the Iron Curtain ... here in Germany ... and worldwide! ^:|
