To give Frank and Connor the odd Sunday off, I am thinking of writing a few coop missions. I have been reading the D-day book by Antony Beevor (well worth getting if you like his stuff - he also did the same style of book for Stalingrad and Berlin) and that got me thinking about a few missions based around the Normandy landings.

I would like to do this for the P47 as we haven't flown it much in previous campaigns, and it will do fighter and ground attack work so I can design a few missions for both roles. Stuart also did some great skins for the 397th FS which we could utilise (I have them all filed away if Stu has lost them )

I have a question for you all as to the degree of realism you want? We could do these missions on the new 352nd cross channel map, but we will be talking serious mission durations. I have test flown a couple and you are talking a 90 minute mission for ground attack over Normandy, or 150 minutes for rendezvous and bomber escort back to UK airspace. We would likely only get one of these missions in per session. There are a couple of ways around this: use air starts just off the French coast on the same map; use Olegs original Normandy map with the island base off the coast. Both would reduce mission durations significantly. Air start would have the additional advantage of us already being formed up and no crashes on take off of course

I would make both types, the 90 min one and Olegs Normandy island. That way you can have the choice on the day, the exact same mission just a different duration.

Since a couple of weeks I´ve been hosting on the Wednesday sessions the new Mediterranean maps (Tobruk, El Alamein and Med. Central). Depending on the level of (semi-) historical accuracy the flight durations could go up to 90 mins plus if I´d let the aircraft takeoff and land at the original airfields. I´ve to admit that I´m not a friend of restarts (at least not of frequent ones) so I tend to give those planes airstarts. Once the major event has happened I always ask the chaps if they´d like to land or to skip the mission in order to start another one. This procedure worked out fine for me (as a host) ...

My two cents worth ...

Just to be awkward , how about MDS?

No restarts (except for crashed pilots)
AI flights and moving vehicles.
Re-arm re-fuel would add realism for D-Day scenario

Possible - but with such long flight times you would only get individual pilots flying their own missions if we did it on the large map - unlikely to get any squad action. Luftwaffe would have big advantage also.

We could do a MDS server to start as a warm up using Olegs map and then switch to the larger map for a coop when everyone has arrived?

A warmup with same plane set could be a good idea.

Neil, I love flying on Sundays but I would rather two short 90 min missions than one massive 150min mission.

I like some action after 10-15 mins and flying 150 mins seems way too much like real life.

but if you build it I will fly it

I have skins for the following: Armitage, Conman, Falcon, Genosse, Heloego, Igor, Alex, Macca, McBiggles, Noter, Wolfhound, Pike, Spitsfire, Scott, Murph, Wardog and Sacktime.

397th was a metal skinned P47 D22 with blue anti-glare panels and a green and yellow horizontal bar on the top of the stabilizer. I think the list above covers most people still flying Sundays so happy to forward skins to anyone interested. - If I have the authors permission of course
