I guess this will happen eventually. Opened my birthday gift, Splinter Cell Double Agent. I loaded it in just to find out my GC doesn't even meet the minimum requirements. It uses the new Unreal 3 engine with shader 3.0. So any new games using this engine forget it with normal systems. The game is over 7 gigs big! Gee, wonder how much I'll get for my X800 pro card? Next time I'll tell the wife check the specs before buying the game.

Gah!

Sorry to hear that, AB! I´m just wondering what kinda PowerPC we´ll need for BOB:SOW?
I better not think about it ...

My rodent lip is quivering - Project Wife has already vitoed a new GC so if BoB is too resource hungry, it's out to the potting shed with Mr Shotgun for me.... a sad end to such a young badger....
Hmmm, Oleg did say not to update our machines until the game was released didn't he?.... If only he knew that I am in fact his and Linda Evan's (from Dynasty) love-child, maybe he would've been a bit kinder....
It's times like this that you need the love of a good sheep....

sorry about your misfortune on the game but this is important info, to me at least, I have the same X800pro card as you and was about to purchase this game also. guess not.

Yeah I am disappointed. I only reached the load screen and about halfway through the loading of the training mission I got the pop up message that X800 pro does not support model shader 3.0. In fact reading up on ATI's site they deliberately left out any upgrades for Direct X 9.0c.

I'm supposed to build a new super rig in the near future (at a cost of TT$30,000.00!) so the game may have to wait until then. But judging from the grapics on the opening movie it sure looks next-gen. Oh, the new Medevial Total War 2 is out boys. Since I didn't have to buy Splinter Cell I still have enough for this game. Although it's another high-end game over 6 gigs big!

Sorry to hear about your trouble. Shader model 3.0 is not a software upgrade but a hardware one. All current gen cards support this. Your X800 only supports 2.0 unfortunately.
If you are planning on upgrading, I would wait about 30-90 days if you can at least. There is some exciting hardware on the horizon that you will want to wait for.

I cannot say that much about it as I am under NDA but I think AMD + ATI is going to look very tasty early next year....*cough*

Well, in my specs I'm including a dual-core processor. AMD looks good but Intel looks like it'll blow it outta the water.

fortunately for the new MB i just bought, it suppots an AGP and a PCIe slot, so im looking to upgrade to a PCI card in the near future, just waiting on prices to drop after x-mas.

At the moment yes, but there is something on the horizon you might want to consider if you can only wait a bit.
