Resolution Question

Hi all,

I have been back to flying for about 2 weeks now, and was wondering. I am currently running 1024x768, perfect settings and getting about 50-60fps in an average sized furball.

Is it worth it to step up to 1600x1200. I havent checked the frame rates for that yet, but just in terms of VID of aircraft, which do folks find better?

If I set anything over 1024x768 the picture just gets smaller , with a black border

Agreed. While you will find the higher resolutions look nice, most missions Rogues enjoy nowadays is with very limited to no icons, making these higher resolutions that much harder with regard to plane recognition. Give yourself a break and stay at 1024x768 and enjoy the better fps.

I'm at 1280x1024 right now due to my using an LCD monitor (native resolution). Should I try using the lower res even though the monitor might have issues with it? Can it damage the monitor?
I used to play at 1024x768 all the time before switching monitors.

I gave the 1600x1200 a test yesterday, ugh, my frame rate cut in half and trying to VID aircraft was no easier. So in the end it was just better to keep the 1024x768 setting for the superior performance.

Are there any setting outside of the 'ingame' ones that should be tweeked to give a performance boost? I can't remember to much of this stuff anymore.

Thanks

FSAutoStart can help things along; though it takes a bit of setting up.

It's fine for off-line , but I've not tried it in-line as yet (not sure how to get it to start via Hyperlobby)

It will shut down unnecessary services and programs, and re-start them once finished.

The resolution depends on alot of key points,

- Monitor Type (LCD or CRT)

- Monitor Native Resolution

- How well you can see

- The particular graphics card you are using

- Type of settings in difficulty of il2fb i.e no icons

I personally have use 1280x960, for the reasons

- 1024x768 looks horrid
- my graphics card runs better frame rates in this resolution
- I do not use any AA or AF on G-card to compensate
- my monitor/graphics card throws a wobbler when I run 3D in anything less than 1280x960
