Joystick/Pedals Setup Question

I wonder if anyone knows if I can get away with just replacing my current CH Fighterstick analog with USB, and using a gameport-USB adaptor for my analog pedals? The pedals are a single axis, without toebrakes, so it seems to me it ought to work? Has anyone here tried this?
I would like to not have to replace both the stick and pedals right now, since cash (as always) is a bit tight.

Not looking too good so far- tried using an adaptor I had lying around, and I could'nt figure out how to get windows to "see" it as a USB devise.
I ordered the stick, but it looks like I may have to bite the bullet and order the pedals too.

Sorry I can't answer your question Murph. As you probably know I recently purchased CH gear, and I'm sure if you decide to get the pedals you won't regret it (unless the misses finds out
).

Why cant you just use the gameport for the pedals?
I've got my Evo on USB and a Phantom2 (with homemade pedal conversion patched in to the Y axis ) on the gameport.
The gameport device (due to XP) shows as ID1 and the USB as ID2, so is easiest to configure in conf.ini using notepad (just copy/paste your old [rts joy] settings to ID2). You can, and may want to use
IL2Sticks for this.

Thanks for the suggestion Sneaky, I'll try it!

I'm not sure I understand the advise about how to reassign the stick to ID1 in windows. I have Il2sticks and don't see any utility there to reset controller IDs, just to set sensitivity.
Can you give me a somewhat more detailed explaination of how to do this?
Is this done somewhere in the game's .ini, or are you taliking about using notepad to rewrite the windows .ini?
P.S. I had to reinstall the gameport stick in order to get the pedals to work- they were'nt designed to be used by themselves, and needed the stick, which I just added as "two axis-two button joystick" with the rudder pedal box checked.

Assuming they show up first in the Windows/Control Panel/ Gameport Controller window - this means they will be "active" in IL2 Hardware Setup/Input screen where you adjust sensitivity, check here to see that the green square moves.
Now go to Hotas Control
select Rudder press RIGHT pedal (when I used LEFT it reversed the axes)
now go through your Joystick axes in the same way , they should all show as ID2
Save settings , and that should be it, apart from any tweaking in IL2 Sticks
your conf.ini should show something like this
(but not exactly, these are my settings)
[rts_joystick]

Thanks Sneaky! It works now, I also found the CH Control Panel for Idiot's guide, which helped me figure out how the map making wizard worked. It has a lot more features than the old speedkeys program, but it sure is a LOT more complicated to use!
BTW thanks for the heads up on using right rudder- I also found I needed to use back stick pressure for the elevator, and right stick for the airelons to avoid axis reversals.
