You bet from the silhouette against the setting sun they looked like Tie fighters

(Talk about immersion!! Was doing a test flight of my own at the time)

I remember when they were testing those things. Watched the protptype run off a leave his chase plane like it was up on jacks.

Helped do some tests on teh production version. We had to lift it onto a platform that read out the lift ability. It was tied down to a test device that worked like an upside down scale. We had to load it on teh test bed with a crane. Was VERY impressive when it was maxed out and trying to yank that mess out of the ground.

Quite a piece of carbon fiber workmanship.

Several of them operating out of Kirtland AFB.

Cripes! A V-22! I'm modelling one in Lightwave 9 at the moment. But don't worry this one's got a sound suppressor.

that was my fav plane model to build when I was a kid :)

I think my brother ended up smashing it and then I remember not building any more models ^:|

... my brother ended up smashing it ...
They tend to smash up a lot in real life too ...

but I haven't heard how they're doing recently.

I guess it may be similar to the Harrier ...

more training, better safety.

Yes it was a controversial design but as of lately they ironed out the 'bugs' and it's a bit more stable I think. It may one day replace the helicopter as it can carry heavier loads longer distances. Plans may be on the drawing board to have a gunship version of the Osprey.
