Guys, I have a ATI X850XT PE card(other specs- AMD FX 55 cpu and 2 gig of memory) and after a few minutes of il2 the temperature rises up into the 80's on the card which leads to strange checkered colours and red streaking when playing in perfect mode, it is cool enough in excellent but with this system of mine I should be able to play in perfect no problem.

I'm assuming the answer is to find a better way of cooling the card(done the side panel off with a fan blowing into the side, still not much better), does anyone have any better ideas or solutions?

A friend of mine had a Radeon card that kept overheating. He had build his own rig from scratch but after doing some research he reckoned that the best thing to do was take it all apart and rebuild it using a more powerful PSU and advanced water and air cooling systems, keeping the rest of the components as they were. It sorted out all his problems.

But hopefully one of the lads here'll be able to come with something a little less drastic!

Air cooling is all dependent upon airflow around the components, not just air blowing at them. I saw a few rigs on that Overclockers site and they look like one of those air conditioning units you'd see in a fancy apartment in New York... some of them even had digital temperature readouts on the front panel for CPU, GPU, Memory timings... that's taking your computing VERY seriously.

you might also need some radiators for memory or/and better circulation in the case (eg. another fan, those fom Arctic cooling produce very little noise)

It does mention they run very hot, not just from the CPU which is vented to the outside via the grill, but also from the chips on the underside of the board.

Might be worth trying to get a fan to blow directly on the underside...

get one of those Willie Coolers for my 40th birthday.... only two years to wait....

:FI:Menace just installed a Zalman ZM80d-hp cooler on his xp800 ati graphic card... Temperatures were spiking to 78 C.... very disconcerting resulting in all sort of artifracts....etc and crashes.... now... spikes to only 42 degrees C from 34 degrees C and no problems at all.... He is now thinking about overclocking to use the excess cooling capacity...(Will they ever learn?) LOL.... see http://www.zalmanusa.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; PS... the installation required the graphic card to be on the kitchen table with a soft tablecloth to catch all the bits and pieces before they hit the floor and resulted in much scarring my tongue from the biting therof ... his fingers are almost as large as mine and more nimble but his appendages are obviously not as well attached to his arms and brain. It took the both of us over an hour. Check ATI site lots of Pacific Fighters Specific fixes in the new download. All the gold pipes and prettyblue heat sinks and neat fan is impressive as hell.

Thanks for all the hints and tips, Mefisto wins the prize, got that artic cooling silencer thingy from overclockers and its doing the business, temps are down from the upper 80s down to the 40 to 50 range, no more streaking or weird shapes for me.
