This is a day late...

and sorry if its already been said but yesterday was the 61st anniversary of Wing Commander Guy Penrose Gibson's death(The man who led 617 Squadron on the Dam Buster raids on the 16th May 1943 and won the VC because of it).

He was shot down on the 19th September 1944 after returning to operational flying after a period of forced leave where he went on a tour of America.

He was killed when his de Havilland Mosquito was shot down during a bombing raid on Rheydt, near Bergen-op-Zoom,in the Netherlands and I'm pretty sure it was because he was flying low and clipped a powerline but I couldnt be sure.

Gibson's grave and a memorial are in Steenbergen en Kruisland R.C. Churchyard, the Netherlands.

S! to a brave man who won the DFC , DSO and even the VC and went on over 175 operations over occupied Europe.May he rest in Peace.
