Thinking of using this instead of ZoneAlarm free version, any comments?
Also is anybody using this and also hosting on Hyperlobby?
The question is which programmes do I need to allow are they:-
1 hlpro.exe
2 aping.exe
3 il2fb.exe
If these are the three required, do I still need to "Add Port"?
Thanks

Are you giving up on NIS Grecian? It has a great Firewall.

Grecian,
I use the Windows XP firewall (SP2) with good results. The three files you mentioned look familiar; i think it would be safe to enable the ports.

I've never tried hosting through XP firewall... might try to see later if I have time but...
1 & 3 need access... not sure about 2. I know it ties in with HL somewhere but am not sure where or how.
You will need to open the port for 3 (should not need to for 1 & 2).
Much simplified to my basic knowledge
, but to trying to explain... the firewall works by blocking access to machines where you did not initiate the contact with the other machine, e.g. when you join a server, the firewall is intelligent enough to know you contacted the host server and initiated the contact with the other machine so allows the host server to respond to you without blocking it even if you don't specify whether the poert is open or closed.
Where you are the server/host you will not know what machines/IP addresses will be contacting you (as you did not initiate the conversation), so by opening the port, you are telling the firewall to allow connection regardless of who started the conversation.
1 does not need the port opening as you are contacting HL's server. When you launch the game as host, HL does not connect to your host machine, but passes your IP address to IL2 which then connects to your hosting service.

SP2 works great, i hosted a coop with Dex one night and it works fine, ZA is just a hassle in my opinion.
