Dear folks

Today I had an unpleasent experience with my Win XP, i was going to reinstall it and pressed format C ( one of my 3 partiotions). However, it formatted everything. Now I'm trying to recover the data, but don't think it will be succesfull.

do you know of any free program that can help with recovering lost partitions?

I tried demo version of Diskpatch2.0 and it sees the lost partiotions. there were some importatn things on one of them ,esp email and other stuff placed there today I know,I should have burned it on a cd.....it always happens this way......

I'd appreciate any suggestions

Really sorry to hear about your situation mate. Any important research papers and such Macca? I hope not.

Sorry I can't help. Hopefully someone here can.

Hi TactS

Fortunately, no important things excpet for some emails, but not of that importance. I think I'll give up, do a deep format and install windows again, i need my puter running asap.

I have a completely game-free rig now:)

Hell....

At least my sister won't do any harm here;)

Can you do a System Restore?

It saved me when I flippy floppied up my USB devices by letting me roll back to the time *before* I did things I shouldn't have done ;)

...but I don't know if it's any use at actual data recovery.

It may be the case that you have to swallow your pride, pick up the phone, and call an expert. I know that there are companies here in Ireland specialising in data recovery so I presume that there are a few in your neck of the woods too.

Good luck Macca, hope to see you soaring through the skies or crawling through the mud and ruins soon mate (and that's just when you come to Dublin  ) !

Installed free PC Inspector
and listen...

Windows doesnt see my lost partitions

It does

it runs under wixp

for one hour it scanned my drive C and found the lost partitions Maciej 2 and 3

now all I want to do is to recover one little folder.......bout 300 MB....cruicialm rest doesn't matter.

If not, then well...I can live without that.

Computers are evil...Windows is even more evil......

Might try this,

Install XP on a SEPARATE hard drive. Get it up and running. Mount your old HD as a SLAVE. Use the new HD to search the old drive for the stuff you seek. I've had a luck in the past recovering data by this method from damaged drives.

Good luck,
Willie

Thx Willie,

unfortunately I don't have second HD and I need to have my puter running tomorrow morning. So I'll get back only the inmportant things (If im able to) and do a serious format. But really have to buy myself a second disk.....and DVD recorder....

But you know what...

it is amazing how many tracits of old old old files there are on ou hard drives even agfter a couple of formats and installs of other stuff....

...have a copy of the file "Fdisk. com"?

If you have an old W98 boot disk it should be there.

Do an FDisk of your HD to partition it, then Format the partitions you wish...several times.

It cleans it up pretty well, but if someone is hell-bent on recovering info from your drive(s), it can still be done.

The only true way to wipe a drive TOTALLY clean is with a VERY LARGE MAGNET.

Or write 0's and 1's to the whole thing with Western Digital's utilities. ;)

I wouldn't be too concerned about old file fragments. They'll be overwritten as needed and the "link" to their use won't be available for them to interact with your new system.

You want something more than format c: /f ? Doesn't Windows XP now invoke a "full" format anyway? :-k If in doubt just sit it next to a very large magnet. ;)

So I guess you're not playing Imperial Glory at the moment. Oh what a silly question! #-o Heard mix reviews. Might wait until the first patch and see what folks are saying. Waiting for the addon for R:TW perhaps.

ufff......

My neighbour has Partition Magic 8....that did it.

Now I've inbstalled XP and downloading service pack 2.

It goes quite nice compared to my previous net speed - today i got 2 Mbit/s instead of 640Kb/s

No games yet...but good side is that I can learn without being tempted by Silent Hunter 3 , Pacific or Call of Duty.

BTW....

Things that I managed to recover from the lost partitions were SH3 save files.....

S! and thx guys
