let the madness begin (finally):
all we need for this is:
1 BIG excavating machine
2 BIG trucks
60 tons of cobblestones (?)
NO RAIN!
and spice it with a few beers..
voila!
also a nice place to hide mother in laws, managers and architects.

They are VERY handy.
If your missus is like mine she'll have loads of 'stuff' that looks like junk that she wants to keep.... so an attic is great - get it out of the way and leave some room for tools, machines, engines, cars, bikes, saws and all the good stuff
I hope the house building goes smoothly for you m8!
It was a nightmare for us
Sapper... I think Cider will also be doing some painting and wallpapering in a few months.... quite a bit in fact
I envy you and I don't.... if you know what I mean!
Good luck with it m8!
You should have a painting party weekend and get the squaddies over to christen the house - no beer 'till the works done - otherwise it doesn't work very well

I used to be a professional interior painter- maybe you'd like to fly me out there to lend a hand?

Why the cobblestone mate? Shouldn't you be going below frost to undisturbed soil? What gives Cider?

Is groundwater close to the surface?
And congrats to you and your family!

Congrats, Cider!

thanks for the thumbs-up, m8s!
just got back from the site, expect some progress pics next week.
christening the house with my fi-mates would be great, but i have to organize a airshow in the area first i fear

.
murph, professionals are ALWAYS welcome

.
tactical, there`s lots of groundwater, you can see the pump in the background keeping the water at a considerable level (under the gravel, that is..).
my little daughter keeps insisting on a place for "the horse" (we ain't got one) so i see some trouble ahead

.
and yes, fen, building is fun, but i'm glad when i'm done with the project...

Best of luck Cider.
Have to say my first thought was, 'That's going to be a m----- of an outdoor pool'
I take it you just drop the house in.......by helicopter?
