At a loss??

Hello all
Major pc problems here and am at a loss why! Playing on or offline my m/c has been pretty much stable up until now. Now, whenever I hear sound I get stutters and pauses which eventually turn into one big pause,, i.e. complete crash.
I have re-installed PF and can join for a short while but it always ends up the same
Am on the verge of a complete Os re-install unless anyone has had similar manifest itself for no apparent reason and got any ideas?
Clue #1

You said...

Obviously sound-related, so zero in on your sound card, and ALWAYS try the easiest stuff first!
First, reduce your SC settings. If that doesn't work try reinstalling the SC drivers. Sometimes even re-seating the card in its slot will work.
I used to use the Sound Blaster cards, but when I had the same probs I switched to Turtle Beach. No more probs.
That may not be the issue with you, though.
Gurb, is there a .dll for this prob, too?

Ok have to come clean here!! I was initially chasing down a reduction in sound quality after installing the WTCF offline campaign
The sound became very crackly and with lots more pauses and stutters than normal. So after much installing-re-installing of sound and vid card drivers plus a rollback or two I took the soundcard completely out and used the onboard AC97!! Seemed to cure the offline campaign, but I get this problem now online.
Bearing in mind your comment Helo about doing the simplest thing first not sure if this was a sensible way of doing things
I've got a s/blaster live 5.1 and I appear to get the best performance in Il2/PF with the drivers that come in XP (i.e.after OS re-install). As soon as I start to install any Creative drivers I seem to get worse performance.
Do you think I should be thinking about another sound card ?
Sys XP2800, 9800pro 128, Gigabyte Ga7vAXP (Kt400), 768mb pc2700, OS XP sp2, latest version of directx,
Sorry about the ramble

Ianus,
When you get the problem figured out let me know. I have a similar sound card configuration. It plays mp3's great; only marginally works in games.

in yo8ur IL@setup folder, under the sound tab, what does your options looks like in there? if not alreadyt, try setting your playback channel to 16bit. might wanna play around with the in-game sound settings also.
As DS said..

...you might wanna play with the IL2 Setup file first. Put all sound settings at the lowest value, run the game, and if OK try it at the next highest setting.
Same goes for In-Game Sound controls, though they usually follow closely the settings in the Setup file. DO NOT adjust both at the same time! Avoid confusion and work in one area only before moving to the next. Makes it a LOT easier to go back, if necessary.
When I had a lot of static in my sound I checked the Output Type of settings for my card and changed from 4-speaker to 2-speaker.
I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz card, so I haven't a clue if it will work for you.

Thx for help people, this is wierd
I've lowered everything back down and put me sound card back in, it runs not too bad but not the same as before I started having the trouble??
Everything that I can find I have put at it's lowest setting.. Is it possible that something has become corrupted? I saw mention earlier that there was a DLL available for a sound fix, what does this do? Thing is it would be nice to fix it but have set myself up for an OS re-install and am getting serious withdrawal symptoms from playing Il2. Am at a loss Lol. Is it just me?

I see a setting called "Soundflags.static=1".
Wonder what would happen if you changed it to "0"?
Many of the settings appear to be self-explanatory, and the value may be either "1" or "0".
"1" = ON
"0"= OFF
You could experiment by changing the "Soundflags.static" setting, but be careful as you may cause more probs than you already have.
After a complete clean re-install of FB+AE I had static so constant I always thought my plane was afire!
I had to format anyway (due to other issues) and the next install of FB+AE had no static.
Have you attempted a CLEAN re-install through PF?
Remember to clean up your Registry when you do a re-install, as some registry setting(s) may be the culprit(s). Just be VERY careful to only use the FIND function, and even then READ what it finds before deleting anything!
If you have XP, it may be smarter than my W98SE (soon to be shit-canned), but be careful nonetheless.

Well,
I did the OS re-install but after I read the above so I will never know what that soundflags setting did Helo! Very odd as well. Brand shiny new set of cat 5.3's (first drivers after motherboard one's to be installed into new OS) and still the bloody problem was there!!
I was advised to stop any overclocking by Steve v, so this I did. It cured the problem for the most part
, but in the Black Death track the sound was not too good still. The one thing I did discover was that changing the vid card latency timings seemed to help. Doing this I have now completely eliminated my sttttttttuuuuuuuuttttttttteeeeeeer, heeh
So to Igor I would say play around with your latency settings m8 as this did help. Everything was set at 32 but the vid card initially is set to 255, meaning it's very much at the front of the que resourcewise. I ended up setting mine down to 16 btw. The latest edition of ATI tools is what I used to "muck" around with my latency settings but there is a latency tool (google)which is far more versatile.
What bugs me is I didn't do the latency thing before the re-install as it probably would have worked

An update,
I have managed now to completely eliminate the popping and screeching sounds by using the latency tool.
I've even been able to take it back to my original o/clocking speeds and so have got my fps back.
The fix was a bit drastic on the face of it but after quite a bit of experimenting it seems to be a "proper" fix!. The vid cards standard setting is 255 and the sound card 32, I now run the vid card at 32 and the sound card at 128!! What can I say,, it works!!
Great Info, Ianus!

Glad to see you stuck with it, m8!
