The US viewed the Japanese as sub-human monkeys as depicted in posters and movie reels.
It was propaganda like this in the Napoleonic wars that got the Monkey hung as a French spy.

Apart from the overt nationalistic stuff; both Allied and Axis used pornography as propaganda to lower morale and cause division amongst allies/class/race etc.

Paul Tibbets: My edict was as clear as could be. Drop simultaneously in Europe and the Pacific because of the secrecy problem - you couldn't drop it in one part of the world without dropping it in the other.
