Funny thing about pipes.. I had two Harley's awhile back. One was a '47 knuck. It was bone stock. 74CI, of clanking, oil dripping, oldness. The other was a 90CI shovelhead. It was HOT. It would smoke the tire in 3rd gear ( if the damn clutch didn't slip LOL)

I could ride that clanking old knuck through a parking lot at idle and set off more car alarms than that 90 inch hotrod ever thought about..

Both bikes had drag pipes with no baffles. The pipes on the knuck were a bit shorter than those on the shovel.

That "bobber" looking trump is intriguing and unsettling at the same time.

As for a windscreen? Never had one. Lost a lot of sunglasses over the years looking back over my shoulder. :?

Strangely enough, probably because I wear a full face (Got hit on the forehead by a junebug, think acorn only with hooks, at about 80mph  ), I found that going on the highway with one was MORE tiring than without. Didn't have the windblast keeping my lazy self upright I guess.

I agree with you there Willie, that bobber does not look right. From what I can tell its just a Bonnie Speedmaster with an exhaust and handlebar swap. I find the olive drab paint job to be odd also.

Still up in the air about fork gaiters. I'm not all that certain I like them.

SpookyRuben's sister wouldn't go on the back without it Fen! (Sissy Bar) (Awesome Woman :) all kinds of hotness, but terrifyingly intelligent. )

More Russian fun?

My oil pressure was dropping for no apparent reason - so I was told it's best to take out the oil pump and check that the oil pressure release valve (a ball-bearing and spring set-up) was well seated and there was no 'gunk' in there from my holy piston event last year....

Dropped the oil pan but couldn't get the damn oil pump out so I had to dismantle the gear tower (note to self - buy a gear-puller and don't use a crowbar and hammer in future).

Lots of fun, sweat and some blood and I'm a little closer to solving the problem. The oil pump was fine - but the centrifugal oil filter (a slinger system) had a bad seal - one is winging its way to me now from Kiev in the Ukraine :)

Hopefully my wee nightmare will be running again shortly....

Must buy myself a trailer.....

Russian bikes are not a mode of transport - they are a test of character.

I'm still waiting for my Hanes manual to tackle mine. Was talking to Bro's Cycle, they said just tip the bike on it's side, remove the primary drive cover, unbolt the case, fit the gasket and shove the new gearshift shaft into place, and that I wouldn even need to change the oil. I'm not one of the luckiest of people, but that kind of scares the hell out of me in the "If it can go wrong it will go wrong" "If it's this easy, I'm doing something terribly wrong" department.

At least you have something to swear at that doesn't swear back Fen!

all you need is a BFH - a big fecking hammer - I'm sure a Trumpet will respond to that too ;)

Willie - this bike will be the death of me... I'll be poor and broke and obsessed and no one will want me anymore...

Hmm... sounds like my 20s

'cept then it was mother alcohol....

There is a light at the end of the tunnel - but due to cutbacks it has been temporarily switched off ;)

I do have a torch to complement my BFH :)

So I'm fine for now

Ask me in two weeks....

Keppoch and I finally got the manual and started the fix. After burning a few bucks worth getting the proper tools and parts. (Why is it so hard to find a 3/8ths tourqe wrench in this town?). Just found out that I damaged the engine case inside, one of the gearshift position levers sheared right off of the transmission case. Question is, I can find someone who is experienced in welding aluminum/molybendenum alloy to fix the fiddiling part, should I trust the weld? It's not a real load bearing structure, but I'm having nightmares about metal whirring around and beating up my tranny. Bout a dime sized weld is all that is nesscessary, guy said he did it about five or six times before. Re-tap, put it back together. replace oil, and I'm good to go. New case is about $2000K. Trust it? Is it going to be stronger than before? Or should I e-bay the bike as soon as it's ready?

PS Yes Fen, We did use a Big Feckin Hammer :D

Get it "TIGged" and re-do whatever you have and ride the wheels off of it.

My old knuck snapped BOTH the front motor mounts.. :( Pulled the motor, took it to a TIG welding wizard and told him I did NOT want to split the cases and do all that shyte. Told him to take all the time he wanted and rebuild those lugs. HE spent about 20 minutes a day for 2 weeks adding a bit of aluminum each day until we liked the way it looked. Drilled new bolt holes using the frame for a drill guide, had to shim it a bit, bolted it up and rode rudely off into the sunset. ;)

Just make the sure the welder type guy knows his stuff.

If ya got any more Q's, stop by my place,

Lots of good folks that are heavy into scooter stuff hang around and most everybody is very willing to help. Just ignore the occasional political rants that appear there.. I let the guys have their fun as long as they're not actually shooting at each other. OR if you're so inclined jump in and fire a virtual shot.

Thank you for the link Willie. You have been a great help. ^:)

But I'm afraid to make a gaffe like "Aluminum/molybendenum" instead of "Aluminum/Magnesium" alloy. I'd get eaten alive what with my limited know-how. Getting the ride tigged tomorrow maybe. Hopefully the guy will do it, without me pulling the whole motor. It's pretty easy to get at. Dog bless the the centre stand!

Hell, it's a Bonnie and you can make spare parts out of leaves and bits of crap from the side of the road.

You HAVE to be creative to ride old Triumph stuff. ;)

Ahh, but the highest tech and most advanced motorcycle factory is currently in.....Hinckley! You'd think it was Japan, but no, the new trumpets have some crazy tech. Anyway, I loaded it into Frankentruck (a Toyota truck built from the pieces of lesser Toyota trucks) then took it down to the machine shop. Is there some kind of pre-requisite that old machinists have to be cranky old bats*ards?
