Tact... I hate to burst your bubble...
But I am 100% pure Irish BEEF.
Now Rules, on the otherhand is pure Swedish Elk.
So in answer... the Irish make LOTS of computers (mostly Dell) - but we don't have a clue what we are doing.... (Dell)

As a Dell owner I concur.

Actually, except for Dell's call centre being in India, which makes for some rather difficult service calls (though the folks have always been nice), my Dell has been very good to me.
A Swedish Irishman? Ok, ok an Irishman living in Sweden. My family is originally from Limerick Ireland (O'Hearn).

TS!

No thanks necessary, but I got the spell-checker to correct your spelling for you, Fen.
You are Welcome, sir!
Fen's corrected statement:
Tact... I hate to burst your bubble...
But I am 100% pure Irish BULL.
Now Rules, on the otherhand is pure Swedish ELKE.
Always glad to be of service.
( Though, you may have offended Rules.

Gah!
Another delima!!!!
My 'puter table is in our living room for all to see. That is why my wife wants a spiffy-lookin' LCD monitor there instead of the Viewsonic 21" giant dull black box I plan to order even though the cats love to nap on the nice warm monitor. Heartless woman!
Anyway ... she offered to give to me $500-600 more from HER money to buy a $1200 (maybe less) 24" LCD monitor that won't offend her delicate designer sensibilities. < Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW Widescreen LCD >
Oh, and she gets a discount for Dell stuff from work; probably 10-15%
The LCD has a fix res, 1/2 the colors and all the other problems that come with an LCD for gamers and graphics program users. It has a descent refresh rate though, (12-16) and text is probably better.
The CRT has eight different res's, more settings, better color and all the stuff that are CRT's.
The old CRT would be better overall, but a slick 24" LCD wouldn't be far behind in performance. It has a rather odd native res of 1920x1200 (16:10) that IL2 probably doesn't support but can be adjusted ... probably.
Who do I make happy, the cats or the wife?

My cats have never been happy since I got the LCD.... little Mitzy used to spend hours up on top of the old CRT spotting the boggies for me

...and don't forget to ask how noisy the new one will be.
Fans = noise. The more of them the more you'll feel like there is a M.A.S.H unit in the back yard.

You can take it in the bath with you, can't you?. Adds that bit of extra 'immersion' to Sient HunterIII.

Yeah, I know it was a dumb post. I need to make my own decisions. So yesterday, as my mind was flailing back and forth and I was proudly declaring, "I've decided! I'll get the CRT! ... No, wait ... Okay, I've definitely decided, the LCD! ... but the CRT has the ... Okay, the CRT for sure!, my wife was sitting patiently and waiting.
I alit on the LCD choice again and before I remember that the CRT has many other fine attributes the wiff says, "Lunch!". So, for now, I have officially decided on the LCD. I go to the dining room to eat. Eileen passes me in the hall and asks, "The LCD now?'. I mumble in the affirmative and start eating.
Where's the wiff? She's not eating? I hear clicking in the living room. With the meal over I walk into the kitchen and sagely utter, "Y'know, that CRT
is big but I think I'll get it now instead."
Eileen turns away from the computer and smiles. "Too late ... dear ... I just ordered the LCD, It'll be here by Tuesday."
Dog bless her.

I think you will prefer the LCDs another nice thing about LCDs is that they support sub-pixel rendering which makes reading fonts that use this much nicer. So LCD will make reading text on your PC much better
