Hung it up, but obviously attacting the wrong type of fairies at the moment

We had a new boiler installed last Tuesday - and it broke Sunday :(

Engineer was working on it most of the day Monday and hopefully now fixed - we had our first snow of the winter this morning so I hope so!

Message for all Ju87 pilots - we need to fly these as dive bombers, the role they were designed for, not level bombers as we slipped into this week. We flew over the lines at too low an altitude - a few hundred metres at most - and got blasted by AAA and then loitered too long over the targets at low altitude making level bomb and strafing runs. The Stuka is a dive bomber and we need to use it properly. There is a good tutorial on the Flight School forum from Genosse.

I for one will be practising offline before next weekend

There is also a good single player mission on sinking the Marat.

End of rant.

Yeah, I s'pose you're right Neil ...

and everyone remember to assign a key for adjusting the auto release of your ordinance when the dive brake is set. I like zero feet. Do it at take off.

Amen Neil. It may be an idea if we had some kind of debreif session on the Long Defeat thread in the squadron forum, that way we are not washing our dirty laundry in public. But I'm afraid as with the flight training and everything elce the people who need to read or take part in them don't.

Stu, when I tested the mission I use 350m with 0 delay thats with a 500lb bomb; try it in QMB.

?? I don't normally do any dive bombing but I thought the bombs auto dropped at 500m, I couldn't find a key to set auto release.

Increase Sight Altitude
Decrease Sight altitude

Mine seems to default at 750m

PS: thx Greg, I'll give it a try

You need to assign keys to it - there are no defaults. It is preset to 750m at the start of each mission so you need to adjust it each time you start. I do it as part of my preflight check, you know - flaps, radiator, prop pitch, fresh beer, bombsight altitude etc.

I normally set mine to 0 and drop manually, but you need to be confident about pulling out of your dive in time. Greg's setting of 350m for automatic release sounds a good compromise, but remember the bomb will drop at that altitude so you need to get the bottom of the gunsight aligned onto the target before you reach the bomb release point. Don't forget the dive brakes, and set your throttle to low as you dive. That way you get the distinctive Stuka wail, slower dive speed allows for better bomb accuracy, and then reapply throttle and retract brakes as you pull out of the dive. Must recommend Genosse's tutorial again on the flight school forum - he covers all of this very well.

350m gets you outof a dive from any altitude, some times I used 300m but when you pull out from that hight there will be a lot of soft brown stuff between you and your parachute, so 350m is the safest bet
