"Perfect" Vid Settings
Hey M8s. I am enjoying the hell out of my new X1600 card, but I find myself wondering..."is this all there is"? How does one squeeze the "perfect" setting out of IL-2? Is this only for certian vid cards?

If its mouse lag on menu screens and stutters with Open GL selected a bit more memory can help. If its patch related ,like mine its a long wait from Ubisoft support.
Anything else is probably down to tweaking the settings in conf.ini
Edit...... just found this on Ubi
{atioglxx.dll}driver file in Il2 folder
I've had a problem with Open GL Perfect , since patching to 4.04m. related to this .dll ,but not found the fix yet. OpenGL now just shows game in sepia, and if I use perfect setting just get everything black except the planes.

hey Zeke, you should be able to go into the custom settings and just select perfect and then apply. if it doesnt let you select this then make sure OpenGL is selected. if im correct that is one of ATI's latest video cards right?

The "perfect" selection is not available to me. Its one of the first things I checked after installing the new card. I just figured there must be some tweak some place or the "perfect" setting was only available for certian cards. I noticed that there is no "Radeon X1xxx" card selection in the IL-2 Setup screen. There is Radeon X800, the older Radeons, then what appears to be a generic "Radeon" selection. At the moment I simply have "max settings" selected. Works great, but I long to see what "perfect" looks like!:FI:Deathsledge wrote:hey Zeke, you should be able to go into the custom settings and just select perfect and then apply. if it doesnt let you select this then make sure OpenGL is selected. if im correct that is one of ATI's latest video cards right?
Yes, the X1600 is one of the newer cards behind the X1800 and X1900. The X1600 card was the biggest and baddest that would fit my AGP 8X board.

I've noticed from my problems with "Perfect" that even if I've selected OpenGL ( in "setup Il2.exe") gone to the graphics setting in the options in the main game screen and selected perfect; if the game then crashes and I re-boot the settings revert to Direct X.
Under Direct X "Perfect" appears as a white-out in the menu.If that is the case on your setup go to your graphic options and make sure OpenGL is selected. The display should then re-set and ask you for confirmation (I assume you already use 1024x768 screen res), then check for Perfect settings.
If you are able to select it hit the Windows key open IL2 folder ,right click on conf.ini and set it to "Read only", then return to game for testing.
Worth noting that Perfect only relates to "Ground detail"

"Perfect" does not appear under Direct X either....ground detail would come in handy to spot ground targets. Might there be some adjustment to look for in the .ini? I know there are a number of tweaks, setting water and forests and such to "1" or "0" or whatever.
