Friday night, Bomber night
Frank, I'd definitely be interested in this, I see 1_Java crowd are in it also. Though this Friday is taken up with work and a camping trip the following weekend.
It seems the flyable slots are grabbed quite quickly, so if we were to go ahead we would need to jump in quickly when its posted up. But I'll fly what ever is available.

So the posting on the front page worked!
Glad to read that you're interested in this event as well as I am. I've had a couple of time the chance to fly it and I had a quite pleasant time. Larry (Blue2) and Aaron (Rambo) seem to have flown it on a regular base so they know more about it.
If we could get some more folks together for this event I'd like to drop our Wednesday's original IL-2 evening instead. As you've mentioned the slots are really grabbed quickly so we need to come up with a "FIS First Order" strategy for Monday mornings!
Anyone else interested in flying this event? Just the usual supects? Keyser Söze?

Re: Friday night, Bomber night
Last nights (06th) sorties were a bit of a disaster for me, though I'm not put off, just need more flying under my belt. Frank and Larry, how did you fare?
Perhaps be better if we stick together and fly the same Aircraft, if not then be on comms together and fly bomber and escort together, flying a bomber is fine by me as well.

Re: Friday night, Bomber night
Sorry to hear that, Vin. I wasn't sure, since Frank & I were alone on comms for most of the night. We did fine... pretty good actually since we weren't bounced much & didn't die at all. (My 2nd time for that in 2 weeks! I think the Peshka is the most survivable plane on the Red side - Blues seldom CAP our targets, and plane is fast & defends itself well against anything less than a skilled/disciplined enemy.) We had to skirt around fights in the Marinovka area at least twice, at treetop, but managed to RTB each time.
We id our primary target some serious damage on the first run. Next run we struck at stationary targets along their northern line of advance. Frank had to leave then so I was solo for a bit, but with 45 min to go I took off with Keben & Biggles from 1.JaVA (both in Pe-2s) and 1 escort fighter, and we returned to the original target and flattened almost everything else there. RTB'd with ~20 min remaining & quit for the day.
I had hoped you'd be able to wing up with Rambo, but obviously that didn't work out. Your suggestion (same flight together) is great - we just need to jump in early to reserve slots as you guys say above. Fighters are usually the highest in demand, but not always. We need to work out what we all want to fly before Monday if possible. If only 3 of us, it should be easy to get in the same flight. For my part I usually fly bombers by default. I do enjoy all the roles, and somebody has to hit the targets to prevent complete team failure, but I would definitely LIKE to fly fighters much more. Some things never change, huh? This of course is a never ending cycle - I'm rusty on fighters now because of this. Hope to get in more fighter practice in the other online servers in coming weeks.
EDIT: Some other options, if any work better for other guys: there's also Saturday bomber flights (flying same missions as Fridays), and some other events coming up or already started that take place on Sundays. There's good variety in these choices. If you find time, read up on them in the BOS forums here.

Re: Friday night, Bomber night
Always a bonus to get back in one piece after a good sortie, next week we should stick together whatever we fly. Funnily enough I survived both shoot downs, so no major dramas, though the Red side is losing Aircraft at a shocking rate. The advantage is with the Axis lot, quite historical of course, methinks its the ground targets we need to focus on and try and ignore meaningless dogfights.

Yeah, I'd really appreciate this. Flying together and/or using the same TS frequencies is always encouraging ... at least me.:FI:Ardmore wrote:Perhaps be better if we stick together and fly the same Aircraft, if not then be on comms together and fly bomber and escort together, flying a bomber is fine by me as well.
I'd like to take the chance to excuse my early leavings on the last two sessions but I need to get some sleep since I have to get to work the next Saturday quite early ...
Aynhow, I've posted some images on the official BOS forum of the last FNBF session ...

Folks,
the slots for next Friday FNBF mission are open. Anyone of you is willing to fly this one?

Re: Friday night, Bomber night
I'm willing, as long as work lets me again.
3 LaGGs, 3 Yaks & 4 Pe-2s available now. I'll join the new guy who signed up in Peshkas, & will reserve something for the 3 of you who've flown this before. I'm guessing though, so go in the BOS forum & request plane changes as desired!
Anybody new coming??

Thanks Larry, I'll cover you and Frank in your PE-2s while you destroy those pesky Axis ground targets.

Re: Friday night, Bomber night
We're set for Friday. Spoke with Rambo and he doubts he'll be able to get off work in time to join us this time... perhaps just as well since all the slots are full now.
If others are receptive, I'd like to shift & try flying an event on Saturday or Sunday instead. Would be much easier for me, schedule wise, plus we might (eventually) get more other =FI= to join if we shift later into the weekend, who knows.
These are the 2 best choices I know of right now. The 2nd one is a very new event, and I think it has 2 or 4 missions per weekend when it's running. Only runs for a few weeks at at time though. Another difference is that you have to register. The sides fight to conquer sections of the map. Reminds me of Mikester's campaigns that we flew couple years ago with the German squad, and others prior to that.

Re: Friday night, Bomber night
Hi Larry, can't commit to any wars that require my undivided attention, work and family don't give me that luxury any more, no problems with the FNBN or even the one on Saturday, as these have quite a relaxed attitude to them.
So, if its for a Saturday night then I'm quite happy with that.

Hiya, Larry!
I wouldn't mind shifting to Saturday evening (2100 CEST - 1500 EDT) if we could fly the same mission as the Friday boys do. I just need to get my week's flight schedule fixed and I could even fly a bit longer on Saturday (no need to work on Sundays though ... at least not yet!).
By the way, I've just posted some pictures of my last resupply sortie on the last FNBF session ... for whomever likes to watch them.

Re: Friday night, Bomber night
Nice pics, Frank! Thanks for posting. You got a raw deal. PK'd by friendly fire sucks.... kinda like being exploded in mid air for no apparent reason, as happened on my last sortie!
Understand your situation, Vin. Doubt many of us can really commit to lots of flying any more. No worries.
Glad you're both flexible about shifting. Not sure whether more FI will ever join in, but if we're already flying at a time easier for them, at least there's more of a chance, huh?
Let's plan on trying out the Saturday mission this week. They always need more players, and besides I can't make it this Friday because I've got a charity golf tournament I'm in, along with others from work. If we can all fly on Saturday it will help their numbers so I know they'll appreciate it.
I'll reserve us some planes when they announce this Saturday's mission (unless you guys beat me to it).
Also, I got confused & the 2nd link I sent you above was wrong. I was trying to send you this one:
http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/210 ... war/page-5
This is actually a full-time server that runs for the duration of the match... several weeks I believe, typically. The other link I sent is a good event too, but it's more similar to FNBF/SNBF, where this one is quite different. There are several things to like about this one, most notably that it provides a great place to gather on Sundays should we want to. We could fly as few or as many missions together as we like, but it's not as much "air quake" as the other servers, and it's an ongoing war versus just a quick 3 hour mission that starts all over with a fresh map each cycle.
On Tactical Air War (TAW) each player begins with a "stable" of planes, and if you lose some you have to complete 3 missions successfully (or be in the air at mission end) to earn back your lost planes. So, there's good incentive to stay alive. Anyway take a look & maybe we can try that out together sometime soon. I've only flown 1 mission on there so far, so not much experience to share yet but the forum sounds good.
